  • Where: The recalls are effective in the United States.

Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced recalls last week for products that may pose a risk of injury to consumers. Here are Top Class Actions’ top recalls for the week of March 18.

Jool Baby recalls baby swings due to suffocation risk

Jool Baby initiated a recall affecting 63,100 units of its Nova Baby infant swings due to concerns over potential suffocation hazards.

The swings, found to have an incline exceeding 10 degrees, violate safety regulations outlined by the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Infant Sleep Products Regulation and the Safe Sleep for Babies Act, according to the recall notice.

Manufactured between June 2022 and September 2023, consumers can identify the affected swings by locating the date code on the sewn-in warning label situated on the back of the swing’s seat, the recall notice states. The brand “Jool Baby” is prominently printed on the swing’s base, while the seat label bears the designation “NOVA.”

Customers should stop using the swings immediately and upload a photo of the warning label to the online registration page. Jool Baby will then send a repair kit, including a new seat and updated on-product warnings, plush toys and remote control.

More companies announce cinnamon recalls due to elevated lead levels

La Fiesta and Raja Foods issued voluntary recalls of certain cinnamon products due to elevated levels of lead, joining a series of recent cinnamon recalls.

La Fiesta’s recall affects 0.87-ounce ground cinnamon bearing the universal product code 032327000449, while Raja Foods’  recall affects two lots of its 3.5-ounce packages of Swad cinnamon powder with UPC 0-51179-34280-4.

Concerns regarding potential lead exposure stem from recent tests the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted, which allegedly revealed elevated lead levels in the affected cinnamon products, according to the recall notices.

While short-term exposure to low lead levels may not cause immediate symptoms, prolonged exposure, particularly in children, can result in permanent nervous system damage, learning disorders, developmental defects and other adverse health effects, the recall notices say.

Both La Fiesta and Raja Foods advise consumers to stop using the recalled cinnamon products and return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.

Sargento announces recall for cheese related to Rizo-Lopez recall

Sargento issued a recall for a select range of food service and ingredient products Rizo-Lopez, a California-based dairy company, supplied.

This decision follows Rizo-Lopez’s recent recall of several dairy items due to potential contamination with listeria monocytogenes. The recall includes 11 shredded and grated cheese products distributed to food service establishments across 15 states, including California, Florida, Washington, Texas and Ohio.

Sargento says it has since terminated its business relations with Rizo-Lopez in response to the situation. In an effort to address misinformation surrounding the recall, particularly rumors implicating its own products, the company released a statement reaffirming its commitment to product safety and transparency.

Great Value honey roasted cashews recall initiated due to allergy risk

John B. Sanfilippo & Son announced a recall for a specific batch of Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews, distributed to stores across 30 states.

The recall is due to the presence of undeclared coconut and milk, according to the notice. Individuals with allergies or severe sensitivities to these ingredients should not consume the product as ingestion could potentially lead to serious or life-threatening allergic reactions.

The recall includes 8.25-ounce plastic cans featuring a distinctive blue wrap around the label, and bearing a best-buy date of July 8, 2025, and a UPC of 078742133348.

John B. Sanfilippo & Son initiated the recall after a limited quantity of labels intended for honey roasted cashews were erroneously affixed to plastic cans containing coconut cashews during the production process, the recall notice says.

Although the company has not received reports of allergic reactions, customers should stop consuming the product and return it to Walmart for a full refund.

Recall issued for Best Buy Insignia air fryers due to fire, burn risk

Best Buy initiated a recall for more than 287,000 Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens due to potential safety hazards stemming from overheating.

The products’ handles can break, increasing the risk of fire and burn injuries, according to the recall notice. They may also overheat, possibly shattering the air fryers’ glass doors and posing a significant laceration hazard to users.

The recall covers 187,400 air fryers sold in the United States and 99,900 in Canada; the affected model numbers are NS-AF34D2, NS-AF5DSS2, NS-AF5MSS2, NS-AF8DBD2, NS-AF10DBK2 and NS-AF10DSS2.

Consumers can identify the air fryers by the prominent Insignia label adorning the front and a product rating label underneath, the recall notice states.

Best Buy says it has received 24 incident reports concerning overheating, melting or glass shattering.

Customers should stop using the affected Insignia air fryers immediately and visit the recall website to submit pertinent information, including photos of the air fryer, model number and receipt.
