Americold has agreed to pay $5.25 million to resolve claims that it failed to prevent two data breaches that occurred in 2020 and 2023.
The Americold settlement benefits individuals who were notified by Americold that their information was impacted by data breaches in November 2020 and April 2023.
According to claims made in the Americold data breach class action lawsuit resolved by this settlement, Americold failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures that could have prevented two data breaches three years apart. Because Americold failed to prevent these breaches, the plaintiffs and other consumers were allegedly at risk for identity theft and fraud after their information was stolen.
Americold is a temperature-controlled storage company that employs thousands of workers across the country.
The company has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $5.25 million class action settlement to resolve the data breach lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Americold settlement, class members can receive payment based on the number of data breaches they were affected by and the damages they incurred as a result of the breaches.
Class members can receive up to $25,000 for documented losses related to the data breaches. These losses can include communication expenses, credit report costs, credit monitoring fees and identity theft damages.
Class members who were notified of both data breaches can receive a residual cash payment of $200. Class members who were notified of only one Americold data breach can receive a residual cash payment of $100. No documentation is required to claim these residual cash payments.
All class members can receive three years of free credit monitoring, which includes at least $1 million in identity theft protection services.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 22, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the Americold data breach settlement is scheduled for Oct. 6, 2026.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Oct. 22, 2026.
