Favorite Day caramel recall overview:

  • Who: Silvestri Sweets recalled its Favorite Day Valentine’s Milk Chocolate Covered Caramels with Nonpareils.
  • Why: The caramels may contain undeclared pecans.
  • Where: The Favorite Day caramel recall is active in the United States.

Silvestri Sweets issued a recall of its Favorite Day Valentine’s Milk Chocolate Covered Caramels with Nonpareils, which are sold at Target stores nationwide, as the caramels may contain undeclared pecan.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website published the recall Feb. 16. It applies to 8-ounce bags of Favorite Day-branded Valentine’s Milk Chocolate Covered Caramels with Nonpareils with lot no. 33822 and best-by date of Dec. 7, 2023.

According to the caramel recall, the products may contain an undeclared tree nut — pecan.

“People who have allergies to tree nuts (chestnuts, brazil nuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, pine nuts or cashews) run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the recall states.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall, the company says. It is not facing legal action, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Caramels sold nationwide through Target stores, according to Favorite Day recall

Silvestri Sweets initiated the recall after it discovered possible tree nuts were distributed in packaging that did not reveal their presence, the company says.

“Subsequent investigation indicates the problem may have been caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging process,” according to the caramel recall.

The recalled items were distributed nationwide through Target retail stores, the company says.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled Favorite Day Valentine’s Milk Chocolate Caramels with Nonpareils should call Target guest relations at 1-800-440-0680 for a refund.

In other chocolate news, consumers recently filed class action lawsuits against Hershey, Trader Joe’s, Mars, Godiva and Lindt claiming the companies manufactured, sold and failed to disclose the alleged presence of unsafe levels of lead and cadmium in some of their dark chocolate products.
