Dick’s tree stand lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Michael Weyant filed a lawsuit against Dick’s Sporting Goods, Field & Stream and Alliance Outdoor Group.
  • Why: Weyant claims Dick’s sold a faulty tree stand that led to injuries.
  • Where: The Dick’s lawsuit was filed in the Carroll County, Maryland circuit court.

A Maryland man filed a lawsuit against Dick’s Sporting Goods, Field & Stream and Alliance Outdoor Group, claiming that defects associated with the Dick’s tree stand caused him to fall from a tree and suffer injuries.

Michael Weyant claims Dick’s breached its duty of care by failing to test and ensure the safety of the products and parts that failed when Weyant was injured.

The Dick’s lawsuit claims the defendants failed to:

  • Properly design the Field & Stream Stealth II Climber;
  • Properly manufacture and assemble the product;
  • Select and use the appropriate straps, fasteners, bolts and/or other parts of the Field & Stream Stealth II Climber;
  • Manufacture and sell a reasonably safe tree stand;
  • Warn consumers of defects in the design and manufacturing of the product;
  • Conduct quality control inspections;
  • Issue a timely and appropriate recall of the tree stand.

Plaintiff suffered ‘severe pain, permanent injuries,’ according to Dick’s tree stand lawsuit

The Dick’s tree stand lawsuit states that Weyant suffered “severe pain and permanent injuries to his body … as well as severe and protracted shock to his nervous system, all of which have caused him, and will continue to cause him, great pain and mental anguish.”

Weyant claims he has spent large sums of money for hospitals, X-rays, medical treatment and medication for the treatment of his injuries.

He seeks a judgment in excess of $75,000, plus court costs.

In other Dick’s news, Dick’s Sporting Goods is facing other legal action regarding its website. The retailer is facing a class action lawsuit claiming its website is not accessible to blind people.
