Avery Popcorn recall overview:
- Who: Avery’s Savory Popcorn LLC recalled its gourmet popcorn in all flavors.
- Why: The popcorn may contain allergens.
- Where: The popcorn recall is active in the United States.
Avery’s Savory Popcorn recalled its gourmet popcorn in all flavors because the products could contain certain allergens.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration website (FDA) posted the recall Jan. 30.
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to specific types of allergen (e.g., milk, soy, peanuts, tree nuts… and sulfites run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the Avery’s Savory Popcorn recall states.
Contamination caused by temporary breakdown in production, packaging processes, popcorn recall states
Avery’s Savory Popcorn initiated the recall after it discovered that products containing the allergen were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of an allergen.
A subsequent investigation indicated a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes caused the issue, the company says.
Avery’s distributed the gourmet popcorn products in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and Texas, shipping them directly from the Avery’s Savory Popcorn LLC Online Store.
No illnesses have been reported to date, the company says. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
If you had any Avery’s Savory Popcorn product shipped to you between Nov. 20, 2022, and Dec. 20, 2022, you should discard the product and notify Avery’s Savory Popcorn LLC at info@savorypopcorn.net for a full refund, the company says.
In other popcorn news, last year, Snak King voluntarily recalled 5-ounce packages of “O Organics Sea Salt Organic Popcorn” due to cross contamination with a milk allergen.
