Costco paddle board recall overview:

  • Who: Surf 9 recalled more than 20,000 paddle boards sold at Costco.
  • Why: The inflatable paddle boards can deflate unexpectedly, posing a drowning hazard.
  • Where: The paddle board recall is active in the United States and Canada.

Surf 9 recalled more than 20,000 inflatable paddle boards sold in the United States and Canada, as the boards can deflate unexpectedly, posing a drowning risk.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website posted the recall Dec. 29.

It applies to about 13,300 Body Glove Tandem Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Boards, ULI Inventor Inflatable Paddle Boards, ULI Zettian Inflatable Supyaks and ULI Lila Inflatable Supyaks sold in the United States and about 7,000 of the Body Glove Boards sold in Canada.

Surf 9 initiated the recall because the glue on the inflatable paddle boards can separate at the seams and the paddle boards can deflate unexpectedly, posing a drowning hazard, the paddle board recall says.

Consumers should immediately stop using paddle boards, Costco recall says

The recall comes after Surf 9 received three reports of the Body Glove boards deflating, according to the paddle board recall notice. No injuries have been reported so far.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled boards and return them to Costco for a full refund or contact Surf 9 for instructions on how to receive a refund,” the Costco recall states. “Costco is contacting all known purchasers directly.”

The affected products were sold at Costco Wholesale Warehouses in the United States and Canada and online at www.costco.com.

The Body Glove boards were sold from December 2021 through July 2022 for about $630. The ULI boards were sold from July 2021 through July 2022 for between $700 and $800.

In other Costco recall news, the retailer recalled more than 70 tons of chicken patty products in November as they may have contained pieces of hard, clear plastic.
