Granola recall overview:
- Who: An organic granola product sold at Topco and SEG stores nationwide is being recalled.
- Why: The Organic Oat and Honey Granola may be contaminated with undeclared almonds.
- Where: The recall is active in the United States.
An organic granola product sold at Topco and SEG stores nationwide is being recalled as it may be contaminated with undeclared almonds, which could cause a life-threatening reaction for those who are allergic.
The recall was posted to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website Dec. 30. It applies to one lot of Organic Oat and Honey Granola made by Garden of Light—doing business as Bakery on Main—a Connecticut business.
The company said it manufactured 14,304 pounds of the product, which was distributed by Total Granola in Topco and SEG retail stores throughout the United States.
The product recall was voluntarily initiated after it was discovered that the product potentially contained almonds, and that it was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of almonds.
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the recall states.
No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date, the company said. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
Product was sold nationally in different packaging
The product was sold at retailers nationally as Topco/Full circle Organic Oat & Honey Granola, with UPC code of 036800420397, and in SEG stores as Naturally Better Organic Oats & Honey Granola, with UPC code of 07880201130.
The product was produced with a “Best Before Date” of 10/10/23. The best before date and UPC code can be found on the back of the film package.
Customers with the affected granola in their possession should dispose of it immediately, the company said.
Earlier this year, Built Brands initiated a voluntary recall for more than 4,000 individual bars of its “Banana Cream Pie Puffs” protein bar over concerns they have been contaminated with pathogenic E. coli.
