Whole Foods Market is recalling certain salsas, guacamole and other prepared foods due to a potential risk of Salmonella contamination. The products, which include various dips and salsas containing jalapeños, were sold in several states across the United States.
The recall, announced on Aug. 12, affects products sold in the Produce and Prepared Foods departments of Whole Foods Market stores.
The affected items include Mild Guacamole Dip, Spicy Guacamole Dip, Medium Pico de Gallo Guacamole Dip and several others, with best before/by dates ranging from Aug. 7 to Aug. 14, 2026.
The potential Salmonella contamination is linked to jalapeños sourced from Coast Citrus Distributors, which have been associated with a multistate Salmonella outbreak currently under investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Salmonella contamination linked to wider jalapeños recall
The FDA has identified a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, as the potential source of Salmonella contamination through Coast Citrus Distributors.
Chipotle and QDOBA, also affected by the jalapeños recall, stopped using the affected products in July.
Meanwhile, Taylor Farms has also recalled dozens of finished products containing the peppers from Kroger, Walmart and Target stores, specifically in Texas, Illinois, Ohio and Louisiana.
Salmonella can lead to severe health issues, especially in vulnerable populations, causing symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea and abdominal pain. In rare cases, it can result in more serious conditions like arterial infections and endocarditis.
Whole Foods Market has urged customers who purchased the recalled products not to consume them. Instead, they should dispose of the items or return them to any Whole Foods Market store for a full refund.
The company has not reported any illnesses linked to the recalled products so far.
