Midwest Poultry announced a voluntary egg recall of more than 1.5 million dozen eggs due to potential contamination with Salmonella Enteritidis. The recall affects white and brown shell eggs distributed in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
The recall, announced on July 22, applies to eggs produced between June 6 and July 3, 2026. These eggs were sold under multiple brand names and distributed to foodservice and retail customers, including Kroger and Brookshire Grocery stores.
The eggs in question have sell-by or best-by dates ranging from July 20 to Aug. 17, 2026, and are identified by codes P-1950 or 840962 with a Julian date between 157 and 184.

The recall notice emphasizes the potential health risks posed by Salmonella Enteritidis, which can cause severe infections, particularly in vulnerable populations, such as young children and the elderly.
Symptoms of infection include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can lead to more severe illnesses, such as arterial infections and arthritis, if the bacteria enter the bloodstream.
Consumers urged not to eat the recalled eggs, full refund offered
The contamination was identified through Midwest Poultry Services’ proactive environmental monitoring and root cause analysis on its Texas farms. As a result, the company has ceased distributing fresh eggs from these farms.
“Consumers who purchased products associated with this egg recall are urged to avoid consumption and return the product to its original place of purchase for a full refund,” the recall notice says.
Consumers are advised to check their egg cartons for the identifying codes and Julian dates to determine if their purchase is part of the egg recall.
