Air Rifles sold by Air Venturi have reportedly been recalled by the company over concerns that certain models can unexpectedly discharge.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall notice for DIANA Stormrider Gen 2 Air Rifles on Sept. 10, 2019.
According to Air Gun Depot, air rifles or guns are designed to shoot pellets or BBs. They come in a variety of classifications, from BB and pellet guns to air pistols. The work by using air powered propulsion or pre-charged pneumatic air tanks.
They range in price, as well, from $40 to $50 to several thousand dollars. Air guns are used for target practice and recreation, and also to control pests.
“The air rifle can unexpectedly discharge even if the safety is engaged. This can result in a serious injury or death,” states the CPSC Gen 2 Air Rifle recall notice.
The News & Observer reports that one air rifle has discharged unexpectedly as a result of the problem with the trigger and safety.
According to the notice, approximately 1,400 units are affected by the recall. The products were made in China, notes the agency, and sold at Pyramyd Air, Air Gun Depot, and other air rifle retailers nationwide and online at Amazon.com. The air rifles retailed for approximately $220 each.
According to the CPSC, the Air Rifles affected by the recall include .177 and .22 caliber pre-charged pneumatic rifles with serial numbers between 2318220145032949E to 2318229955034368E and 2318229955075924I to 2318229955076323I.
The CPSC urges affected air rifle owners to stop using the product and contact the manufacturer for a free trigger upgrade repair kit.
“The repair is made by removing the trigger guard, replacing the current trigger with a new trigger and re-installing the trigger guard using the Allen Keys provided in the Upgrade repair kit,” continues the notice.

CPSC issues notices when products are recalled, from John Deere utility vehicles to kid’s pajamas. Consumers who purchased a recalled item can find out about the hazard and how they can avoid it or fix it by reading the recall notice.
Earlier in the year, John Deere recalled certain utility vehicles and mowers for posing hazards to consumers. According to the pair of recall notices issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission dated Sept. 4, 2019, both hazards could be repaired.
Ragdoll & Rockets recently recalled their children’s pajamas and loungewear earlier this month because of concerns about flammability. In this case, though no incidents had been reported, consumers were instructed to stop using the products and offered a refund.
