Lively Mobile Plus emergency alert devices are being recalled due to the devices’ failure to call when activated in an emergency.
On Aug. 30, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of Lively Mobile Plus emergency alert devices.
According to the regulator, these alert devices may not fulfill their purpose in an emergency due to a failure of the call button.
The Lively Mobile Plus emergency alert devices can be worn on a magnetic lanyard around the neck for fall detection or can be clipped onto purses, belts, or pockets.
These devices are intended to help consumers communicate in an emergency or call for assistance. Lively Mobile Plus alert devices come in both silver and black, and feature “GreatCall” printed near the top of the device.
During internal product testing, manufacturers reportedly discovered that the adhesive which holds the call button in place on the Lively Mobile Plus has a quality issue. This reportedly results in failure of the call button. Although no consumers have reported issues with the device, the manufacturer has issued a voluntary recall.
“Out of an abundance of caution – and because your safety is our top priority – we need you to stop using the device immediately and return it to us,” GreatCall Inc., the company which manufactures Lively Mobile Plus emergency alert devices, said in a recall announcement. “We want to help ensure your device is working when you need it most.”
GreatCall is a California-based company which offers numerous health and safety solutions for aging adults and caregivers. These products reportedly help older individuals live more independent lives while also staying connected with emergency assistance.
Devices offered by the company include the Jitterbug Flip, Jitterbug Smart2, Lively Mobile Plus, Lively Wearable and Lively Home. GreatCall also offers health, safety, and wellness services including GreatCall Link and 5Star Urgent Response.
Around 44,300 devices are included in the recall. Affected devices include all Lively Mobile Plus model GCR4 emergency alert devices with the date codes 19.01 or 19.03 on the bar code.
Lively Mobile Plus devices were sold by Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, and GreatCall between April 2019 and May 2019 for prices between $25 and $50.
The device manufacturer is reportedly contacting all known purchasers directly through email, mail, and phone call. The CPSC recommends that all consumers stop using the recalled devices immediately and contact the manufacturer if needed.
GreatCall is offering a refund to all consumers who purchased the recalled products, in addition to a $50 gift card. The refund will include compensation for service fees, purchase price, and the device’s activation cost.
The company is also offering consumers a free Jitterbug Flip phone, although consumers would have to pay a monthly service charge of $14.99. However, the manufacturer notes that this fee is less than consumers currently pay for their Lively Mobile Plus service.
For more information about the recall, consumers can contact GreatCall at 800-359-1791 from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. PT daily or email the company at CustomerService@GreatCall.com.

I need help, too. Purchased for my elderly parents….have never worked. How do I return and get a refund. They were even purchased after recall…..why were they still offered for purchase at Walgreens??
Can you refer an attorney who is currently handling lawsuits against Great Call? My father in law fell and the device did not detect it because he was having a seizure. This was the only reason for getting the device. My 14 year old son had to call for an ambulance after helping my father-in-law. My son is now seeing a counselor and a psychiatrist.
