A fresh batch of class action settlements opened in May and have begun accepting claims through the month of June and beyond. 

The settlements were made to put to bed claims revolving around improper fees, unfair lending practices, defective products, and price fixing, among other things. 

A business will often agree to a class action settlement in order to put an end to litigation without admitting to any actual liability or wrongdoing, and as a way to satisfy consumers.

Capital One to pay $190 million over 2019 data breach handling

Capital One has agreed to pay $190 million to resolve claims that it endangered the information of its customers during a 2019 data breach. 

The settlement will benefit roughly 98 million Capital One customers who had their information compromised during the breach. 

Eligible claimants can be reimbursed up to $25,000 for out-of-pocket expenses incurred on account of the data breach. 

A valid claim form must be submitted by Aug. 22 in order to be included in the class action settlement. 

Compass, 365 Retail to pay $6.8 million to end BIPA claims 

Individuals who used a Compass or 365 Retail vending machine in the state of Illinois may benefit from a recently opened $6.8 million settlement.

The settlement was made to resolve claims Compass and 365 Retail violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) by improperly collecting biometric data through the use of fingerprint scanners. 

Eligible Class Members are anticipated to receive between $300 and $600 in compensation. 

Individuals who want to be part of the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by July 29. 

Ranbaxy, Sun Pharmaceutical price fixing allegations leads to $145 million settlement

Ranbaxy and Sun Pharmaceutical have agreed to pay $145 million to resolve claims they collaborated to fix the drug prices of generic Nexium and generic and branded Valcyte and Diovan. 

The settlement will benefit six separate classes of third-party payors and does not include any natural person consumers. 

Settlement funds are expected to be allocated with 72.6% going to the Diovan classes, 26.2% to the Nexium classes, and 1.2% going to the Valcyte classes. 

The deadline to file a claim to be included in the class action settlement is Oct. 11. 

Britax Child Safety settles claims it sold defective booster seats

California residents who purchased a Britax Child Safety brand Harness-2-Booster safety seat may be eligible to benefit from a recent class action settlement. 

The settlement was made to resolve claims certain Britax Harness-2-Booster safety seats are defective and not structurally sound.

Eligible Class Members may be entitled to receive a $40 payment for each allegedly defective child safety seat purchased. 

Individuals who want to be included in the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Aug. 10. 

Nutribullet agrees to pay $10 million to end claim blenders overheat

Nutribullet LLC has agreed to pay $10 million to resolve claims that some of its blenders are prone to overheating. 

The settlement will benefit a Class of consumers who purchased a 600-or 900-watt Nutribullet blender in the US between June 1, 2017 and March 15, 2022. 

Eligible claimants will receive either $5 for a qualifying 600- watt model, $7 for a qualifying 900- watt model, or a $10 or $15 discount code for a new 600-watt or 900-watt blender, respectively. 

A valid claim form must be submitted by June 13 in order to be included in the class action settlement. 

Lender Think Finance to pay $44.53 million to end CFPB claims

Consumers who have taken out loans from MobiLoans, Great Plains Lending, or Plain Green may be eligible to benefit from a recent $44.53 million settlement agreed to by Think Finance.

The settlement was made to resolve claims by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that Think Finance used unfair lending practices that took advantage of their customers. 

In order to be eligible, claimants must have ever taken out a loan with Great Plains Lending, taken out a loan with Plain Green before June 1, 2016, or made a cash advance on a line of credit with MobiLoans before May 6, 2017.

Eligible Class Members will automatically be included in the settlement in lieu of opting out.

Central Payment to pay $84 million over improper card processing fee claims 

Central Payment Co. has agreed to pay $84 million to resolve claims it misrepresented and improperly imposed additional fees for its card-processing services. 

The settlement will benefit current and former Central Payment customers who were assessed TSSNF and PCI noncompliance fees, had their credit card transaction cost rates increased, and had their discount rates increased above their contractual rate between Jan. 1, 2010 and Oct. 31, 2020. 

A valid claim form must be submitted by Aug. 6 in order to be included in the class action settlement. 

ITT Tech, Daniel Webster College students to benefit from ITT bankruptcy 

Former students of either ITT Technical Institute or Daniel Webster College may be eligible to benefit from a class action settlement related to the former’s bankruptcy filing.

The settlement was made to resolve claims students were tricked into applying for student aid in order to attend an ITT school.

Eligible Class Members must have attended ITT Technical Institute between Jan. 1, 2006 and Sept. 16, 2016 or Daniel Webster College between Jan. 1, 2009 and Sept. 16, 2016.

Class Members must update their information by June 7 in order to receive a disbursement of funds on July 7. 

Sole Fitness to pay $3.65 million to end claims it embellished performance of its treadmills

Sole Fitness has agreed to pay $3.65 million to resolve claims it exaggerated the horsepower and performance of its treadmills.

The settlement will benefit individuals who purchased a Sole treadmill in Ohio or Minnesota between Aug. 30, 2015 and Feb. 21, 2022, or anywhere in the US from between Dec. 2, 2017 and Feb. 21, 2022. 

While cash payments will vary based on the number of claimants, each eligible Class Member will receive a $100 Sole gift card. 

A valid claim form must be submitted by July 26 in order to be included in the class action settlement. 

On Point Global ordered to pay $102 million to end FTC claims

Consumers who purchased a guide from On Point Global may be eligible to benefit from a $102 million Federal Trade Commission judgment brought against the company. 

The settlement resolves the FTC’s claims that On Point Global misled its customers into giving the company their personal data. 

Eligible Class Members must have purchased a guide from On Point Global from between 2017 and 2019 and been dissatisfied, or been dissatisfied after providing the company with their personal information in 2019. 

Individuals who want to be included in the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by July 17.
