Bolthouse Farms class action overview:

  • Who: Plaintiffs Jennifer Jackson and April Due filed a class action lawsuit against William Bolthouse Farms Inc.
  • Why: Bolthouse Farms allegedly advertises its products as not having preservatives, but the products contain ascorbic acid, an artificial preservative.
  • Where: The Bolthouse Farms preservatives class action was filed in federal court in California.

William Bolthouse Farms is facing a class action lawsuit saying the company claims to have “no preservatives” in their products when the products actually contain ascorbic acid, an artificial preservative.

The ascorbic acid is added to the products in the form of Vitamin C but it also works as a preservative, the Bolthouse Farms class action claims.

“Ascorbic acid functions as an antioxidant that helps prevent microbial growth and oxidation in food products, thereby preserving their color and freshness,” the Bolthouse Farms preservatives lawsuit filed by Plaintiffs Jennifer Jackson and April Due says. “Although defendant identifies ascorbic acid as a source of Vitamin C, defendant adds it for its preservative qualities as well.”

The fact that the ascorbic acid acts as a preservative is more important than Bolthouse Farms’ intention in adding ascorbic acid to the products as a form of Vitamin C, the Bolthouse Farms juice class action says.

Bolthouse Farms’ claims led to unjust enrichment while misleading customers, class action claims

The company exploits the consumer demand for products without preservatives, the lawsuit claims. A nationwide class and both California and New York subclasses are proposed for the Bolthouse Farms juice lawsuit.

They claim that Bolthouse Farms’ labeling is misleading and unfair to competition and it leads to unjust enrichment for Bolthouse Farms.

Bolthouse Farms should have to conduct a corrective advertising campaign as well as pay compensatory, statutory, and punitive damages including interest and attorneys’ fees for its actions, the Bolthouse Farms juice lawsuit says.

A class action lawsuit claims that William Bolthouse Farms Inc. markets its Green Goodness Fruit Juice Smoothie products as a nutritious “100% Fruit Juice Smoothie” but they actually contain harmful synthetic chemicals.

Wow, I am so disgusted to find this put. I’ve been drinking these since 2007, at least. My daugther was 3 at the time. She loved Green Goodness, and we’ve been drinking these since! Blows my mind to know that I’ve been poisoning her for so many years and maybe both our reproductive health issues aren’t such a myster after all.
