Kraft Heinz issues recall for cheese slices due to potential choking hazard

Kraft Heinz announced a voluntary recall of 83,800 cases of its individually wrapped Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices after it discovered some of those packages are wrapped in a way that allows a thin strip of film to remain on the cheese slice after the rest of the wrapper is removed.

The Kraft cheese recall includes 16-ounce packages of the Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product that have a UPC of 0 2100061526 1 and include a best-by date of Jan. 10, 2024, to Jan. 27, 2024. Individual packages contain an S and 72 in the manufacturing code.

The Kraft recall also includes 3-pound multipacks of Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product with a UPC of 0 2100060491 3 and a best-by date of Jan. 9, 2024, to Jan. 9, 2024, or Jan. 16, 2024. 

Kraft fixed wrapping machine that led to gagging, choking hazard, recall says

Kraft says it received six reports of customers who choked or gagged on the cheese wrapping. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Customers can return the Kraft cheese to a store for a refund or exchange or contact Kraft Heinz at 800-280-8252 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday.
