This Is L. tampons class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Plaintiff Danielle Paulson filed a class action lawsuit against Procter & Gamble unit This is L. Inc.
  • Why: This is L. allegedly falsely advertises its tampons as being “100% organic” even though they contain synthetic ingredients.
  • Where: The This is L. tampons class action lawsuit was filed in Illinois federal court.

This is L. Inc., a Procter & Gamble unit, faces a class action lawsuit alleging it falsely advertises its tampons as “100% organic” when they actually contain non-organic ingredients.

Plaintiff Danielle Paulson says she purchased L. brand tampons based on the representations on the label that the product was “100% organic” and believed that the tampons did not contain ingredients to enhance their coloring.

The This is L. tampons class action lawsuit asserts that many consumers try to avoid purchasing personal care products with synthetic and non-natural substances because they may have adverse health and environmental effects.

Consumers are willing to pay higher prices for personal care products such as tampons that are composed entirely of natural materials, the This is L. tampons class action alleges.

This is L. tampons class action claims products contain synthetic ingredients

The L. brand tampons prominently state “100% organic cotton core” on the label, leading consumers to believe that the product does not contain non-natural and synthetic substances, the This is L. tampons class action lawsuit states.

However, the back of the label reportedly contains fine print indicating the ingredients to include cotton, polyester, glycerin, paraffin and titanium dioxide.

“Polyester and paraffin are derived from petroleum while titanium dioxide is a mineral from mined ilmenite ore,” the lawsuit explains.

Paulson notes the product label states that no chlorine bleaching and dyes are used to whiten the product, which is a true statement. However, the fine print on the back of the label also notes that titanium dioxide makes material look white, naturally occuring,” the This is L. tampons class action lawsuit claims.

When used commercially, titanium dioxide is produced through synthetic processes and “results in a compound distinct from its natural source,” Paulson alleges.

The This is L. tampons class action lawsuit says titanium dioxide is banned in some products sold in the European Union and is an ingredient of concern for many U.S. consumers.

Paulson says This is L. sold its tampon products at a higher price than it would have without the misleading “100% organic” claims on its label.

She filed the organic tampons class action lawsuit on behalf of herself and a proposed class of consumers in Illinois and other states who purchased the allegedly misleadingly labeled tampons.

  1. Chelsea Albrecht says:

I’ve been buying this brand for years thinking they were 100% organic cotton! What’s worse is that polyester (plastic) is the main ingredient and they have the audacity to say this product is “rayon-free” which is basically the same thing. How awful!! This company needs to be sued, and their products removed from the shelves immediately!

  2. Samanta Vanier says:

I’ve been buying these tampons for at least a year now and I’ve experienced a drastic change in my period when I started using them. I now have a very very heavy flow and my period lasted up to seven days. Ironically I had to buy more tampons than usual, so I gave this company even more money for a problem they created. I also started having problems with my thyroid. I noticed that it was always around the time of my period that my blood test would come back really bad, so i thought it had to do with the fluctuations of my hormones during my period . Since I don’t use these tampons my blood test are back to normal specially during the time of my period and i have a normal flow. Everything makes sense now since i read that titanium dioxide is a “strong controller of thyroid hormones” I didn’t really believe that all these symptoms were caused by the tampons because they claimed to be 100 % organic and unfortunately I believed them. I am so angry and disgusted at this company, i want to be part of this law suit. I was on sick leave and had a lot of problem because of this.

  3. Laurie thompson says:

I want nothing to do with Titanium Dioxide. For years, I bought my daughters and I these products at Target bc I thought I was getting 100% ORGANIC tampons and pads! Lies all lies

  4. Phillisha says:

I have also used this brand for years, thinking that I was doing myself justice by going the “clean” route. I’ve had similar experiences as many women here have listed the really intense menstrual symptoms that include clotting and going through clothing. Please add me, and update me on the status of this.

I have been using this brand for years, thinking that I was using a “clean” product and doing something good for my health. I’m so disappointed to hear about this lawsuit and ingredient list. Please add me to the lawsuit list.

  5. Amber says:

I have been using this brand since 2019 – I’m highly disgusted, disturbed, frightened, and overall feeling violated! Being lied to for years and standing by this brand has now put my reproductive health in danger and overall health/wellbeing in jeopardy. I need to join this lawsuit!!!!!!!!

    1. Amanda says:

They actually used to be made in Germany (I believe), and were organic. Once they started being produced in the States, they changed the ingredients. This is a pretty recent change and the reason I stopped purchasing this brand.

  6. KRH says:

I would like to start another Class Action Lawsuit against This is L/Proctor & Gamble, for posting an ad that my young son saw that frightened him. The add stated, “that boys have periods, too.” We then had to explain what that meant, which upset him. Then he got upset because he thought he was going to bleed. This whole gender crap sickens me and pisses me off that our young child has to be exposed to this mental disorder. It discusses me to see a company cowtowing to these people with this mental disorder.

  8. Chelli says:

I also been using this for about 2 years and I’m very much disappointed that a brand like L. Would advertise they product being organic and it’s NOT. I just left Target even more disappointed there are still in the shelve if it wasn’t for a girl telling me there is a big lawsuit going on I would had purchased them again. Very disappointed at Target as well

  9. Iliana Delfin says:

I have been using the pads for over 1 year and if I have been affected by the ingredients in the item then that’s is extremely unfair. I also started buying them because they are suppose to be 100% cotton and natural unlike most other pads.

  10. Gretchen Smith says:

Please add be to this. I’ve used this brand for years. Started having irregular periods and ended up having 2 abnormal Pap smears showing ASCUS but HPV Negative. So this is concerning.

    1. Crystal M says:

I have been using this L. product (both pads and tampons) for years; last year I was hospitalized overnight because I had been hemorrhaging for weeks, I was diagnosed with fibroids and uterine cysts.
