This Is L. tampons class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Plaintiff Danielle Paulson filed a class action lawsuit against Procter & Gamble unit This is L. Inc.
  • Why: This is L. allegedly falsely advertises its tampons as being “100% organic” even though they contain synthetic ingredients.
  • Where: The This is L. tampons class action lawsuit was filed in Illinois federal court.

This is L. Inc., a Procter & Gamble unit, faces a class action lawsuit alleging it falsely advertises its tampons as “100% organic” when they actually contain non-organic ingredients.

Plaintiff Danielle Paulson says she purchased L. brand tampons based on the representations on the label that the product was “100% organic” and believed that the tampons did not contain ingredients to enhance their coloring.

The This is L. tampons class action lawsuit asserts that many consumers try to avoid purchasing personal care products with synthetic and non-natural substances because they may have adverse health and environmental effects.

Consumers are willing to pay higher prices for personal care products such as tampons that are composed entirely of natural materials, the This is L. tampons class action alleges.

This is L. tampons class action claims products contain synthetic ingredients

The L. brand tampons prominently state “100% organic cotton core” on the label, leading consumers to believe that the product does not contain non-natural and synthetic substances, the This is L. tampons class action lawsuit states.

However, the back of the label reportedly contains fine print indicating the ingredients to include cotton, polyester, glycerin, paraffin and titanium dioxide.

“Polyester and paraffin are derived from petroleum while titanium dioxide is a mineral from mined ilmenite ore,” the lawsuit explains.

Paulson notes the product label states that no chlorine bleaching and dyes are used to whiten the product, which is a true statement. However, the fine print on the back of the label also notes that titanium dioxide makes material look white, naturally occuring,” the This is L. tampons class action lawsuit claims.

When used commercially, titanium dioxide is produced through synthetic processes and “results in a compound distinct from its natural source,” Paulson alleges.

The This is L. tampons class action lawsuit says titanium dioxide is banned in some products sold in the European Union and is an ingredient of concern for many U.S. consumers.

Paulson says This is L. sold its tampon products at a higher price than it would have without the misleading “100% organic” claims on its label.

She filed the organic tampons class action lawsuit on behalf of herself and a proposed class of consumers in Illinois and other states who purchased the allegedly misleadingly labeled tampons.

  1. Victoria says:

Highly disappointed that they misrepresented themselves as organic. Considering reproductive issues run in my family, I have to be more cautious about the products I use. Considering most women in my family aren’t able to have children after their 20s, I’m trying to do what I can to extend my reproductive system as long as I can and this isn’t a risk I can take. I thought I was having issues with endometriosis and started having cysts along with my walls starting to thin out, my cycle lasting longer, cramps being worse etc., and now I’m hearing about this and wondering if all the issues I was having were due to me using these for the last 5+ years. I will be switching brands ASAP. I just want to know how to actually get in on this lawsuit

  2. Aurora Wyne says:

I bought these thinking they were better for my body, I had always heard that getting oragnic ones were better, helped with cramps due to lack of toxins and other good things. I’ve been using these tampons for the past 2 years and I’ve started getting 2 periods a month, sometimes lasting 8 days or more. Also, the cramps have definitely worsened overtime since using these. I never thought it would be the tampons causing this. Please add me to this, I’m extremely disappointed and switching brands asap.

  3. Holly says:

I started using these a year ago. Periods starting lasting two weeks, blood clots, cramps felt like minor contractions and they would last 2 weeks as well, I would throw up, have hot/cold flashes. I swear I thought I was going through menopause at 25. I went to my obgyn 5 times this year and even she couldn’t figure out what was going on. Literally felt like I was going crazy from being in constant pain every month and not having a clue to why all of a sudden my periods were 100x worse than they ever had been my whole life.

  4. Christina B says:

    Add me please.

  5. Amanda L says:

I’ve been using these for two years and I’ve recently been having multiple periods within the month. I’ve been getting testing done at doctors offices and they are having a hard time figuring out the problem. I think it’s due to these. Please add me, I’ve been experiencing more adverse side effects as well.

  6. katie rogers says:

i purchased this brand from a local target not long ago because they were labeled as “100%” organic, and i wanted to take care of my body better. since using these, i’ve been on my period for over two weeks and have had the most painful period of my life. intense heavy bleeding with concerningly large clots and extremely painful cramps that make it uncomfortable to maintain daily life. i’d love to get more information on how to join this lawsuit.

  7. Karina says:

I’ve been purchasing these for years. I now have a very heavy period and also got a cyst the size of a golf ball

  8. Darian Humphrey says:

I started using these once my cycle started back after having my 3rd child but after using them, I haven’t had a period since and my stomach hurts everyday and it makes me nervous to know if my insides are potentially damaged from using the L organic

  9. Phyllis says:

I’ve only used their pads once but I was using the condoms regularly and would always end up with some infection afterwards but I always contributed to other things since I was using a “safe and natural” product. Ironically I can not find these condoms any where. How can I find out if they’ve been recalled? Thank you.

  10. Hailey Jones says:

I’ve been using these for years – terrible cramps and started getting cysts. I trusted they were organic… please add me.
