Rumble class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Plaintiff Richard Sancruzado filed a class action lawsuit against Rumble Inc.
  • Why: Rumble allegedly unlawfully discloses user data to Meta Platforms Inc. without users’ knowledge or consent.
  • Where: The Rumble data class action lawsuit was filed in Florida federal court.

Rumble Inc. violates consumers’ privacy by knowingly disclosing to Meta Platforms Inc. that they have requested or obtained specific videos or services from Rumble, a class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Richard Sancruzado claims Rumble embeds a Meta Pixel on its website that tracks users’ viewing history while on Rumble and reports their viewing history to Facebook along with their unique Facebook Identification numbers.

The Rumble data is shared with Facebook without users’ knowledge or consent in violation of the federal Video Privacy Protection Act, the Rumble class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff says Rumble Meta data sharing is unlawful, unnecessary for business purposes

A Meta Pixel is a piece of JavaScript code that can allow website operators like Rumble to track visitor activity, the Rumble class action lawsuit explains. The Meta Pixel uses Facebook cookies and allows Facebook to link a website visitor to their Facebook account with their Facebook ID.

Facebook can discern personal and identifying information about the user because the social networking site requires users to provide personal identifying information to open an account, such as name, email address, phone number, birthdate and gender, the plaintiff says.

The plaintiff claims Rumble opted to disclose unencrypted Facebook IDs to Facebook, allowing the company to identify any user of its platform with specific video titles that Rumble users requested or obtained.

Disclosure of users’ personal identifying information to Facebook was not necessary for Rumble to operate its business, the Rumble data class action lawsuit alleges. Rumble also failed to notify users that it would transmit identifiable Rumble data to Facebook or obtain their consent to do so, the plaintiff says.

The Rumble class action lawsuit seeks damages of at least $2,500 per violation for eligible class members.

Peacock TV LLC is also facing a class action lawsuit alleging it unlawfully shared users’ video viewing history and Facebook ID numbers with Facebook.
