Reventics failed to adequately protect the personally identifiable information and protected health information of customers of medical care providers who use its products and services, during a December 2022 data breach, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiff Roger Loeb claims Reventics failed to “adequately implement and maintain data security practices and measures” for the stored personally identifiable information and protected health information compromised during the breach.
Loeb argues Reventics should have known that a data breach was a possibility due to other well-publicized incidents, but ultimately failed to take the “adequate and reasonable” steps to secure its computer systems from being vulnerable.
“Despite numerous and highly publicized data breaches, Defendant failed to implement necessary and basic security measures to prevent the unauthorized access to this information,” the Reventics class action states.
Loeb wants to represent a nationwide class of individuals who had their personally identifiable information or private health information exposed to unauthorized third parties in the Reventics data breach that was discovered on December 15, 2022.
Reventics alleged failure to protect information ‘directly and proximately caused injuries,’ says class action
Personally identifiable information and private health information exposed in the Reventics data breach included full names, addresses, birthdates, Social Security numbers, and medical record numbers, among other things, according to the Reventics class action.
“Defendant’s failure to adequately implement and maintain data security practices and measures for stored (personally identifiable information) and (private health information) directly and proximately caused injuries to Plaintiff and the Class,” the Reventics class action states.
Loeb claims Reventics is guilty of unjust enrichment and negligence and of violating the Colorado Consumer Protection Act.
Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with an award of actual, economic, statutory, punitive, and/or nominal damages for himself and all class members.
Last month, the Medical Review Institute of America agreed to pay $2.6 million to resolve claims it failed to protect the private information of consumers from being compromised during a 2021 data breach.

Received letter on 7/3/2023 from Reventics, LLC stating “On or about December 27, 2022, it was determined that unauthorized acquisition of information had occurred. —-PHI was impacted by the breach. On March 1, 2023 and on rolling basis thereafter Reventics became aware that additional data may have been compromised. We believe your data was contained in this additional data set.” Why am I only hearing about this now when Reventics became aware of “certain irregularities” on December 15, 2022, when I had major surgery at that time?-My HIPAA rights possibly violated and PHI plus major personal information exposed.
