Volkswagen is recalling 75,323 of its 2025 Jetta and Taos vehicles due to a defect in the instrument panel that could lead to a failure in displaying essential information, increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on April 6.
It affects specific 2025 models of Volkswagen Jetta and Taos vehicles. The issue lies in the instrument panel, which may not show warning lights or gauges, including the speedometer, thereby posing a significant safety risk.
According to the recall notice, this defect fails to meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 101, which pertains to vehicle controls and displays.
“An instrument panel that does not display critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, can increase the risk of a crash,” the Volkswagen recall says.
Volkswagen offers free software updates and panel replacements
Volkswagen has taken steps to address the instrument panel defect by offering a remedy that includes updating the software of the instrument panel and replacing it if necessary, all at no cost to the vehicle owners.
“Dealers will update the instrument panel’s software and replace the panel if necessary, at no charge,” the recall notice says.
The company has planned to notify vehicle owners by mail starting May 22. In the meantime, owners can contact Volkswagen customer service at 800-893-5298 for more information.
Additionally, vehicle identification numbers involved in this Volkswagen recall are searchable on the NHTSA website allowing owners to check if their vehicle is affected.
Volkswagen states it has not received any reports of injuries related to this recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
However, Volkswagen and Audi are facing a class action lawsuit claiming certain vehicles have an engine defect that causes excessive oil consumption.
