Verizon Wireless Reaches $10M Class Action Settlement Over Fees

By Matt O’Donnell

Verizon WirelessVerizon Wireless has reached a $10 million class action lawsuit settlement over allegations it violated California law by charging consumers fixed fees for late charges and reconnections, regardless of how much their plans cost.

According to the Verizon Wireless class action lawsuit, Verizon customers were charged a fixed $5 late fee if they did not pay their bills on time and a $15 reconnect fee to begin service again. These fees were allegedly the same regardless of the monthly cost of the plan. The class action lawsuit alleges that California consumer protection laws make such flat fees illegal.

Under the proposed $10 million class action lawsuit settlement, Verizon has agreed to distribute funds to individuals who paid a $5 late fee between June 12, 2003 and July 20, 2012, or a $15 reconnect fee between December 1, 2004 and April 26, 2012.

Has anyone collected any information on suits against Verizon Wireless, like in the State of Texas.

Verizon is constantly changed there “TOS” and User Agreement…and If its a “contract” as they state, and if you are a party to the contract, then you have to be given proper notice. This requirement is Never accomplished.

They changed my plan when my 2003 Nokia phone died, I had Assurion Insurance, they replaced with a LG chocolate smartphone. What they failed to mention, that this phone required a more “Expensive” smart phone plan, I don’t understand how they can do?

And there idiots employees at their store front store, are morons, they don’t understant Contracts, or the legal process, they are pretty much Drones..
I need caselaw from Texas… Thank you.

To #9 and 16. I too had 4 lines with Verizon,I let my lines run out, didnt use the phones at all,I went to a whole new company, and still they charged me a total of $620 for line usages etc. really,I told them I wasnt going to use the phones, they said to just shut the phone down and pay the line fees til they run out,We did that, and they over charged, they wont let it go,we need a class action for over charges

  10. Bahluol says:

My son had his phone stolen and we went to get a new one and for 2 yrs for some reason verizon charged me 10 dollars a month for my son’s stolen phone. It was very frustrating because they used the excuse that i have to pay for the stolen phone because it was part of our contract even though I got my son another phone.
