Verizon Wireless Reaches $10M Class Action Settlement Over Fees
By Matt O’Donnell
Â
According to the Verizon Wireless class action lawsuit, Verizon customers were charged a fixed $5 late fee if they did not pay their bills on time and a $15 reconnect fee to begin service again. These fees were allegedly the same regardless of the monthly cost of the plan. The class action lawsuit alleges that California consumer protection laws make such flat fees illegal.
Under the proposed $10 million class action lawsuit settlement, Verizon has agreed to distribute funds to individuals who paid a $5 late fee between June 12, 2003 and July 20, 2012, or a $15 reconnect fee between December 1, 2004 and April 26, 2012.
Keep checking Top Class Actions for details on how to file a claim for the Verizon Wireless Fee Class Action Settlement as soon as the Settlement Administrator website is up.
In the meantime, you can read the class action lawsuit settlement agreement, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on May 25, at www.hbsslaw.com/verizon-wireless.
The case is Joseph Ruwe, et al. v. Cellco Partnership d/b/a Verizon Wireless, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, San Francisco Division.

A supervisor at Verizon suggested I remedy my issues by joining a class action suit against verizon. Where do I sign on
My phone service is through ATNT because I have had dissatisfactory service with Verizon in the past. My problem is the Verizon landline and high speed internet. I called a service tech to my home to fix a problem that was admittedly, by them, on their side of the phone lines. I was to be charged nothing for this service .Long story made short, my bill is over 7 times higher than agreed upon after all the charges. I think I will just find another provider and save some money until I can get through to Verizon’s customer service, (unlikely) or they call me to ask why I have not paid this outrageous bill (most certainly). I really just want to automate my own phone so that they have to speak to a computer for 30 minutes before being told I’m busy, call back later.
I called to ask verizon about their cheaper plans and a lady put me on a plan that is $320.00 a month. I was paying $186.00 and didn’t want a higher bill. She said the cheapest plan was unlimited everything and i didn;t tell her to change it from my original plan which was $186.00, so now my phones are shut off because i can’t pay the bill. They also charged me a reconnect 2 times in July and August. They sent me a final bill of over a $1000.00. I can’t pay it. Any suggestions on what to do about this nightmare?
This kind of things happen, because , somebody has to look very close how many companies like this take advantage of their mistakes , and nobody says none of this and we are the loosers.
Honestly, this is RIDICULOUS!! I have paid soooo much in late fees, and I called to disconnect my services months ago! Turns out they were not disconnected and late fees were charged MONTHLY while I was still making payments!! This needs to stop. I JUST got off the phone with them, I was on the phone for over an hour, transferred to 3 people and they still gave me the run around!
It’s called pay your damn bill on time people!! That’s how all bills work. Be responsible and stop trying to make a quick buck all because you can’t take care of your responsibilities. What happens when you pay your mortgage late? Late fees! And every single cell company does this. Not just Verizon. They have great coverage so you can’t sit here and say they don’t. Verizon sends you the bill with more than enough time for you to make sure that it’s paid. You have the power to avoid late and reconnection fees.
It’s called ILLEGAL in California.
I always love it when teen age minds try to be part of an adult conversation.
that was @Anonymous
OH, they are almost all anon, lol. The kiddie talking about paying your bills on time, as if the phone companies arent trying to rob everyone blind.
I got charged 60 dollar (had four phones))re connection fee for about 8 times and a five dollar fee every month for about a year in a half. I finally stopped paying and was left with almost a 1,000 dollar bill at the end of my two year contract.
May I ask why Verizon is the only cellular carrier that is in a class action lawsuit for this? I know for a fact T-Mobile charges a $5 late payment fee or a % if its less than $5. But the reconnection fee is $20/line?
I was billed over and over $5.00 dollar late charge for a long time. and my acount was paid up.
they rob u money anyways they send me wrong phones 3 times and that service its sucks i keep complainig they didint do anything they dont let me get out a tha 30 days and when i desconect that phone they charge me 1000 and i still recive that bill.
