- Where: The Honda class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.
A new class action lawsuit alleges certain Honda and Acura vehicles suffer from a paint defect that causes the paint to peel, bubble and flake.
Plaintiff Quinn Attika and more than a dozen others filed the class action lawsuit against Honda on May 22 in California federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.
The class action lawsuit claims the paint defect affects white-painted vehicles of all model years from 2013 to the present, including the Acura MDX, Honda Civic, Honda CR-V, Honda Fit, Honda HR-V, Honda Odyssey and Honda Pilot.
The plaintiffs allege the paint defect resulted from defects in the paint itself, its application to the vehicles’ exterior or Honda’s manufacturing process, including the complexities of using three-stage white paint to create the vehicles’ pearlescent or metallic finish.
Class action: Honda failed to disclose paint defect
The plaintiffs claim Honda knew about the paint defect based on internal testing, technical service bulletins addressing similar paint problems, consumer complaints and a similar class action lawsuit filed in Canada, which Honda’s affiliate settled in 2022 for approximately $27 million in available relief.
Despite this knowledge, Honda and its authorized dealers failed to disclose the paint defect and made incomplete representations about the vehicles’ paint and available paint colors, the plaintiffs claim.
The class action lawsuit alleges Honda marketed the vehicles as luxurious, stylish, durable, high-value and value-retaining despite its knowledge about the paint defect.
The plaintiffs argue they relied on Honda’s misrepresentations and materials omissions and purchased and leased vehicles they would not have purchased or leased, or would have paid far less for, had they known of the paint defect.
They allege Honda’s failure to disclose the paint defect caused them to overpay for their vehicles, left them with premature and unsightly paint failures that significantly reduced their vehicles’ value, and forced them to spend substantial sums on inadequate repainting.
The plaintiffs assert claims for violations of California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin consumer laws and unjust enrichment.
They are seeking certification of the Honda class action, damages, restitution and other relief.
In other cover-up allegations, vehicle owners allege Honda sold Civic, Odyssey, Civic, HR-V, Clarity and Pilot vehicles without disclosing a front camera defect and failed to issue a recall despite numerous reports of safety system failures.

Please Add me! I qualify for this as I have a 2020 Honda Civic Sport color is Pearl color with a metallic finish. My paint is bubbling with Rust, flaking all in different areas all over my car. I still owe on the car.

Based on what you’ve described, your 2020 Honda Civic Sport may fall within two separate proposed class actions:
Paint defect lawsuit – covering allegations that certain Honda vehicles with metallic and pearlescent paint suffer from premature bubbling, peeling, flaking, and delamination. The complaint specifically discusses issues with pearlescent and metallic paint systems.
Front camera/Honda Sensing defect lawsuit – covering certain 2018–2025 Honda Civic models with alleged front camera failures that disable safety features such as Collision Mitigation Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and other Honda Sensing functions.

Subject: Request to Be Included in Honda Class Action
Dear Counsel,
I would like to be considered as a class member in the Honda class action lawsuits involving the paint defect and the front camera/Honda Sensing defect.
I own a 2020 Honda Civic Sport with pearlescent paint. My vehicle has begun experiencing paint bubbling, peeling, and flaking, despite normal ownership and maintenance. I am also experiencing issues related to the front camera/Honda Sensing system, and I believe my vehicle qualifies under the proposed front camera defect lawsuit.
I am still making payments on this vehicle, and these defects have significantly reduced its value and caused me concern regarding its safety and reliability.
I own a white 2023 Honda Odyssey
I own a 2019 Honda Civic. Paint was peeling and I do not live near the beach. Las Vegas, no humidity although it should not matter
I have had a Honda civic since 2021 and the blue paint is significantly pealing and chipping away rapidly. It’s a 2007 and I still owe approximately 12,000$ to date.
