A new class action lawsuit alleges American Honda Motor sold vehicles with a defective front camera system that causes multiple safety features to fail.
Plaintiff Keyana Jones and four others claim the defect affects 2018-2025 models of Honda Odyssey, Civic, HR-V, Clarity and Pilot vehicles.
The plaintiffs argue the alleged defect affects safety systems, such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist.
“When the front camera stops functioning, it causes all dependent safety features to fail simultaneously,” the Honda class action lawsuit says.
The plaintiffs want to represent a nationwide class of consumers who purchased or leased a class vehicle, and state subclasses of consumers who purchased or leased a class vehicle in California, Oregon, Washington, Virginia or Maryland.
Honda failed to disclose front camera defect or issue a recall, class action claims
The plaintiffs argue Honda manufactured, marketed and distributed the class vehicles without disclosing the front camera defect. Despite growing reports of safety system failures, Honda has not issued a recall related to the defect, they claim.
Further, Honda has refused to provide compensation to many owners who have had to pay out of pocket for diagnostics or repairs and has not provided customers with adequate free repair or replacement options, the Honda class action lawsuit alleges.
“Plaintiffs and the class have suffered harm as a result of [Honda’s] failure to disclose the front camera defect in the class vehicles,” the Honda class action says.
The class action lawsuit claims Honda is guilty of breach of express and implied warranty, unjust enrichment and fraudulent concealment as well as violations of state and federal consumer protection laws.
The plaintiffs demand a jury trial and request declaratory and injunctive relief and a reward of damages for themselves and all class members.
In other recent news involving Honda, the automaker recalled nearly 60,000 vehicles in May over concerns a defect in their rearview camera systems could increase the risk of crashes.
