Top Class Actions viewers are starting to receive checks in the mail from a class action settlement filed in Arkansas that accused Philip Morris USA Inc. of misrepresenting Marlboro Lights and Marlboro Ultra Lights as being “healthier” than regular Marlboros.
According to comments and posts on the Top Class Actions Facebook page, Class Members who submitted timely and valid claims for the Arkansas Marlboro Lights class action settlement began receiving checks worth as much as $7,888.21 on April 17, 2017.
If you filed a claim for the Arkansas Marlboro Lights settlement, keep an eye on your mailbox because checks are on their way!
The Marlboro Lights class action settlement resolves allegations brought by two Arkansas plaintiffs in 2003. The lawsuit accused Philip Morris of using terms like “lower tar and nicotine” when in reality the “lighter” cigarettes did not provide a safer alternative to smoking regular Marlboros.
Philip Morris denied the allegations but agreed to settle the litigation to avoid the risk and cost of ongoing litigation.
Class Members included “all persons who purchased Defendant’s Marlboro Light or Marlboro Ultra Light cigarettes in the state of Arkansas for personal consumption from November 1, 1971 through June 22, 2010.”
The deadline to file a claim for the Marlboro Lights class action settlement passed on Dec. 1, 2016.

Regarding 2nd round payments: A representative with the claims administrator just told me over the phone that 2nd round payments issued at the end of September were for claims whose payments were under $400.00. If your initial claim check was over $400.0, there will be no additional payments on your claim.
Got check today of $300. How many round’s is in this settlement. Thank u.

everyone listen up,there is going to be a second round of checks being mail.minium will be 400.00.just google Arkansas cigarettes settlement to get second round of checks.i read the article in the Arkansas news.how good do this get,my first check was eighteen hundreds.
Did you still get the 2nd check for $400 after getting your first check or $1800?My first check was only 73 CENTS!
I meant for $1800 not or. Luckily I got 2nd check. So with the first check if 73 cents, I received $400. Thank you Philip Morris and TCA!
Did it come via certified mail?
Just received my check 1004.55 on June 12th. So I guess checks are still coming. However my check said must be cashed in 30 days. Not 90. And my bank has put a 14 day hold (wells fargo) for reports of fraudulent checks plus Wal-Mart would not cash bc the check comes back as unjustifiable. But everything looks like the others posted so I just hope that it all works out.
