The Marlboro Lights class action settlement resolves allegations brought by two Arkansas plaintiffs in 2003. The lawsuit accused Philip Morris of using terms like “lower tar and nicotine” when in reality the “lighter” cigarettes did not provide a safer alternative to smoking regular Marlboros.

Philip Morris denied the allegations but agreed to settle the litigation to avoid the risk and cost of ongoing litigation.

Class Members included “all persons who purchased Defendant’s Marlboro Light or Marlboro Ultra Light cigarettes in the state of Arkansas for personal consumption from November 1, 1971 through June 22, 2010.”

The deadline to file a claim for the Marlboro Lights class action settlement passed on Dec. 1, 2016.

I’ve smoked Marlboro lights since I turned 18 and am now 42 and only received $100 that’s not rightly fair

  2. Sabrina Browers says:

I’m telling everyone if there’s enough of us we need to bring a class action against “the court” Pulaski County, Judge Fox, or ? No one seems to be able to do anything about this injustice.

  6. Elizabeth Wood says:

There was NOT a disclaimer to the age restrictions. Stores allowed “underage” smoker to purchase cigarettes. I smoked Marlboro Light smoker for 33 years. I am extremely disappointed and we deserve a fair settlement. At the very least they could have paid from the age of 18.

  7. Heather says:

I got my check today for 550.00 and my husband got 450 he a few years younger then me!! So happy that I got in on this!

  8. jack bitner says:

I only got $100.00 because i smoked before 18. Most smokers started smoking before 18. This should not count against any of us. The years we smoked are what counts and better count. They are supposed to call me back. What a bunch of shysters. These lawyers should be in prison.

  9. jack bitner says:

They are trying to rip many of us off by saying we put the start date before we were 18. This is a lie told by them to so many of us. TCA edits these comments. so i’ll keep letting everyone know what these thieves are doing. I have called and the supervisor has not called me back. They are supposed to send me a copy of my claim form. (I have the original) so i am waiting to see how they will lie to try to get out of this.

    1. Karma Smoke says:

I didn’t ever see a disclaimer to the age restrictions. Also, stores allowed us to purchase cigarettes and schools allowed us to smoke them in designated areas. I was a very loyal Marlboro Light smoker for decades and I am disappointed that I did not receive a fair portion of the settlement. At least they could have paid the rate per from the age of 18 and forward, which would have been 28 years of exclusive Marlboro Lights smoking for me.

      1. Don Miner says:

It wasn’t illegal back in the 70’s. The judge is accusing us of being criminals.

    2. JOLIE KING says:

Mine was only $100 for the underage reason too. This is outrageous!

  10. jennifer says:

I got 251.30 but my mom thought she signed up too , how can she check
