The Marlboro Lights class action settlement resolves allegations brought by two Arkansas plaintiffs in 2003. The lawsuit accused Philip Morris of using terms like “lower tar and nicotine” when in reality the “lighter” cigarettes did not provide a safer alternative to smoking regular Marlboros.

Philip Morris denied the allegations but agreed to settle the litigation to avoid the risk and cost of ongoing litigation.

Class Members included “all persons who purchased Defendant’s Marlboro Light or Marlboro Ultra Light cigarettes in the state of Arkansas for personal consumption from November 1, 1971 through June 22, 2010.”

The deadline to file a claim for the Marlboro Lights class action settlement passed on Dec. 1, 2016.

I only received a $100 also…there has to became computer error…they said they would look into it…I agree if it’s not fixed and made right then we should all file a complaints… Maybe they’ll do what’s right!! Come on!!! Only fair?!

  5. Don Miner says:

If you bought them before your 18th birthday after the tobacco law changed. Then it was illegal.

  6. Don Miner says:

The judge is accusing us of being criminals. It wasn’t against the law in the 70’s to buy cigarettes.

  7. Don Miner says:

I agree. I received the same letter. Except the judge accused me of buying cigarettes illegally befor my 18th Birthday and it was NOT illegal to buy cigarettes in Arkansas before you were 18 in 1978

  8. Michelle says:

My husband got his $2400 check and I got $1600.

  9. lee choate says:

do we pay taxes on these checks?

  10. Tonya says:

I signed my sister and brother in law up and they got checks for 3100.00 and 3200.00. I received a check for 100.00 because they said I submitted a claim in which I illegally purchased cigarettes for a calendar year before I turned 18 so they reduced my claim to 100.00.
I don’t know if there would be any recourse but I do believe it is unfair for them to penalize us for a miscalculation.
I agree that we should all get together and demand our share. I smoked Marlboro lights because I thought they were safer and would do no harm to me. Now I have COPD from them and they are adding insult to injury by doing this. Shame on them!

    1. Don Miner says:

I don’t like being accused of something I didn’t do.

    2. Jennifer says:

I only got 100 as well. Im eeady to demand my share as well. And why is it only in arkansas.
