hands holding CBD oilCBD oil products are popular consumables in states that have legalized medical marijuana. Products with CBD oil are used as self-treatment for a variety of issues, including anxiety. A number of products have been made with CBD oil, including gummies, chocolates, coffee, vape pens, and creams.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a component of medical marijuana, but is only the second most significant ingredient. CBD is derived from the hemp plant (which is related to the marijuana plant). Taking CBD alone does not result in a “high” like taking marijuana does. (The high experienced from ingesting marijuana is caused by the most prominent active ingredient, Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).)

And, according to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

The exact legality of CBD oil is still being determined. While CBD is legal in all 50 states under state law, there are various restrictions placed on CBD use. The federal government has still placed CBD in the same class as marijuana, but unlike with marijuana, hasn’t enforced regulations in the same way.

CBD Oil Use

While marijuana has been legalized in several states across the country for medical purposes, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has only approved one cannabis-based product, Epidiolex, which is used to treat certain seizures. Indeed, even though CBD oil products have been touted as capable of treating a number of medical conditions, epilepsy treatment is the only use for which there has been significant evidence found to support it.

CBD oil products are also commonly used to treat anxiety. However, the clinical trials done so far have been smaller and with less conclusive evidence. Some uses have only been tested on animals.

Oftentimes, CBD oil products are sold as dietary supplements rather than medications, and therefore do not have to undergo the same regulations the FDA requires of medical drugs. However, certain CBD oil products may actually contain very little of the CBD they’re advertised as having—and in some cases, none at all. Because of this, consumers claim that these “CBD products” are mislabeled.

Indeed, a 2017 study found that 7 out of 10 CBD oil products are mislabeled with regards to the amount of CBD they actually contain. According to the study, about 43 percent of these products contain less CBD than their packages claim, and about 23 percent contained more.

Moreover, the study also found that about 20 percent of the products labeled as containing CBD also contained some amount of THC—the ingredient found in marijuana that is actually intoxicating. Unfortunately for those who are taking CBD products to reduce anxiety or treat seizures, THC consumption can actually increase anxiety levels or make seizures work.

How stupid. CBD is legal cuz it doesn’t work. It’s anything keep us going to the pharmacy. I’ve tried everything. I have a broken disc in my back. The only thing that works for me is cbd oil with the LEGAL LIMIT of THC in it. The relief I get is amazing. And yes I will pay a pretty penny to get good relief. I don’t get high either!!!!
