Fisher-Price recalls Rock ‘n Play Sleepers following deaths

On Jan. 9, Fisher-Price re-announced the recall of all models of its Rock n’ Play Sleepers almost four years after the original recall after more children died.

Fisher-Price received more than 30 fatality reports for the Rock ‘n Play Sleepers at the time of the original recall after infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained. Since the initial recall, Fisher-Price says it received about 70 additional fatality reports, with at least eight fatalities occurring after the initial recall announcement.

Fisher-Price notes that in some of the reports, it has been unable to confirm the circumstances of the incidents or that the product was a Rock ‘n Play Sleeper. It sold the sleepers at major stores nationwide, including Walmart and Target, and online at Amazon from September 2009 through April 2019 for between $40 and $149.

Consumers should stop using the Rock n’ Play sleepers immediately and contact FIsher-Price for a refund voucher.

Kids2 re-announced its recall of more than 690,000 Rocking Sleepers as four more children died since it initially announced the recall. The company originally recalled the sleepers in April 2019.

The company reported a total of 15 infant fatalities in the Kids2 Rocking Sleepers after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained. It sold the sleepers at major retailers nationwide, including Walmart, Target and Toys “R” Us, and online from March 2012 through April 2019 for between $40 and $80.

Consumers should immediately stop using the rocking sleepers immediately and contact Kids2 for a refund voucher.

Mercedes recalls 320K vehicles due to engine stalling

On Dec. 23, 2022, Mercedes announced on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website that it recalled narly 324,000 vehicles from model years 2012-2020 because the vehicles’ engines can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall applies to certain 2012-2014 ML550, 2012-2015 ML350, AMG ML63, 2015 ML250, ML400, 2016 GLE450, GLE300, 2016-2018 GLE350, GLE550, 2016-2019 GLE400, 2017-2019 AMG GLE43 and 2016-2020 AMG GLE63 vehicles.

According to the notice, water might accumulate in the spare tire wheel well of the affected vehicles and damage the fuel pump control unit. This could cause an engine stall while driving and could cause a crash.

Consumers can take their vehicles to a dealer who will install a water drain plug, inspect for water intrusion and replace the fuel pump control unit as necessary, free of charge.

BMW recalls 14K, iX, i4, i7 vehicles due to defective control unit software

BMW of North America issued a recall of more than 14,000 vehicles over concerns they are equipped with defective high-voltage battery electric control unit software that could interrupt electrical power to the vehicle.

If an interruption of electrical power occurs while driving, it may result in a brief loss of power, or stalling, which could increase the risk of a crash, according to the recall notice. The vehicles included in the BMW recall are model year 2022 and 2023 iX xDrive40, iX xDrive50, iX M60, i4 eDrive35, i4 eDrive40, i4 M50 and model year 2023 i7 xDrive60 vehicles, according to the NHTSA.

BMW says it plans to remedy the issue by conducting a free update of the high-voltage battery ECU software and expects to mail notification letters to vehicle owners by Feb. 10.

Spectrum Laboratory Products recalls epinephrine due to discoloration

On Jan. 9, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website posted a recall for three lots of Epinephrine (L-Adrenaline) USP manufactured by Spectrum Laboratory Products Inc.

Epinephrine (L-Adrenaline) USP is a bulk active pharmaceutical ingredient used to manufacture or compound prescription products. Spectrum initiated the recall after it discovered the epinephrine was discolored.

The use of a finished dose product manufactured or compounded with this recalled product could result in less-effective product and incomplete treatment of life-threatening conditions, including low blood pressure, heart failure, anaphylaxis, irregular heartbeat and heart attack.

Spectrum says it is notifying its distributors and customers by certified mail, email and phone and arranging for return of all recalled products.
