Target recalls Pillowfort brand weighted blankets

On Dec. 2, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a recall notice for around 204,000 Target weighted blankets. Target found the Pillowfort brand blankets to be a suffocation hazard following the deaths of two children who became entrapped in its cover after unzipping it and climbing inside. The recalled Pillowfort brand weighted blankets were sold exclusively at Target locations nationwide and online at Target’s website for $40 from between December 2018 and September 2022, according to the top recall.

The recall notice encourages consumers to immediately take the product away from children and contact Target for a refund.

Samsung top-load washing machines recalled

Samsung recalled 663,500 top-load washers with super speed wash after it found the machines to be prone to short-circuiting, which can pose a fire hazard.

The CPSC posted the recall notice on Dec. 22, which applies to washers sold in white, black, champagne and ivory colors and includes model series WA49B, WA50B, WA51A, WA52A, WA54A and WA55A. Samsung received 51 reports of smoking, melting, overheating or fire involving the washers and three reports of injury due to smoke inhalation.

Samsung sold the washers at Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s and other appliance stores nationwide and online at Samsung.com from June 2021 through Dec. 2022 for between $900 and $1,500.

Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc. recalls quinapril tablets

On Dec. 21, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website posted a recall notice stating Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc. voluntarily recalled four lots of quinapril tablets as they contain a nitrosamine impurity, N-nitroso-quinapril, with levels higher than those approved for daily intake.

Nitrosamines may increase the risk of cancer if people are exposed to them above acceptable levels over long periods of time. The recall applies to quinapril tablets USP 20mg with lot code G102929 and quinapril tablets USP 40mg with lot codes G100533, G100534 and G203071 packaged in 90-count bottles. Quinapril is a treatment of hypertension and lowers blood pressure.

Lupin advises patients taking quinapril tablets USP, 20mg and 40mg, for hypertension to continue taking their medication and contact their pharmacist, physician or medical provider for advice regarding an alternative treatment.

Hospira, a Pfizer company, initiated a recall to the user level on Dec. 22 for one lot of its Vancomycin Hydrochloride Injection, USP 1.5g/vial Single Dose Fliptop Vial drug after discovering a single vial contained two visible glass particulates.

Meanwhile, Accord announced on Dec. 23 that it voluntarily recalled to the user level one lot of its Daptomycin for Injection 500 mg/vial and Daptomycin for Injection 350 mg/vial drug due to a mixup involving the products.

Both companies warned consumers that consuming the drugs may cause adverse reactions, and wholesalers and distributors should stop distributing them.
