Fisher-Price re-announced its recall of 4.7 million Rock ‘n Play Sleepers as more babies died since the first recall announcement.
Fisher-Price re-announced the recall of all models of Rock ‘n Play Sleepers Jan. 9, 2023, almost four years after the original recall on April 12, 2019.
At the time of the original recall, Fisher-Price received more than 30 fatality reports for the Rock ‘n Play Sleepers after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, the Fisher-Price recall notice states.
Since the initial recall, Fisher-Price says it received about 70 additional fatality reports, with at least eight fatalities occurring after the initial recall announcement.
Approximately 100 deaths reportedly occurred while infants were in the products, the Rock ‘n Play recall says.
Fisher-Price notes that in some of the reports, it has been unable to confirm the circumstances of the incidents or that the product was a Rock ‘n Play Sleeper.
Fisher-Price urges parents to stop using sleeper, according to Rock ‘n Play recall
Fisher-Price once again urges parents to stop using the sleeper product.
“Consumers should stop using the Rock ‘n Play immediately and contact Fisher-Price for a refund or voucher,” the Rock ‘n Play recall states. “It is illegal to sell or distribute the recalled sleepers.”
Fisher-Price sold the sleeper at major stores nationwide, including Walmart and Target, and online at Amazon from September 2009 through April 2019 for between $40 and $149.
This news comes after another recall in June 2022 in which the company warned parents about certain Fisher-Price rockers, after more than a dozen child deaths.
Fisher-Price says in the June 14 warning that there were at least 13 reported deaths of infants between 2009 and 2021 in Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rockers and Newborn-to-Toddler Rockers.
In 2021, following reports of four infant deaths, Fisher-Price also announced the recall of its 4-in-1 Rock ‘n Glide Soothers and 2-in-1 Soothe ‘n Play Gliders.
