H-E-B brownies recall overview:

  • Who: Ameripack Foods has recalled nearly 1000 pounds of brownies.
  • Why: The product contains undeclared soy and egg.
  • Where: The brownies were sold at H-E-B stores in Texas.

Ameripack Foods has issued a recall of almost 1,000 pounds of brownies sold at H-E-B stores in Texas, as they were mislabeled as cheesecakes and could contain undeclared allergens.

On Jan. 11, Ameripack Foods LLC announced on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website that it had recalled 976 pounds of Meal Simple Chocolate Chunk Brownies in 13-ounce packages because they could contain undeclared soy and egg.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy or egg run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the recall states.

The recall was initiated after discovering that trays of brownies were mislabeled on the back as sopapilla cheesecake, which does not list egg and soy allergens on the product ingredient label.

Consumers can return brownies to H-E-B for full refund

The brownies affected by the recall were available for purchase at H-E-B retail stores across Texas.

“Consumers who have purchased this product should discontinue use immediately and return the product to the nearest H-E-B store for a full refund,” the recall states.

There have been no injuries or illnesses reported to date in regards to the recall, the company states. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Brownies have been the subject of class action lawsuits in the past.

In 2021, Conagra brand was hit with a class action lawsuit alleging one of its fudge mixes that promises on the packet to be “thick and fudgy” does not have fudge ingredients in it, so is illegally marketed.
