Mercedes engine recall overview:

  • Why: The vehicle engines can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Where: The Mercedes engine recall is active in the United States.

Mercedes is recalling nearly 324,000 vehicles from model years 2012-2020 because the vehicles’ engines can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall was announced on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website Dec. 23.

The recall applies to certain 2012-2014 ML550, 2012-2015 ML350, AMG ML63, 2015 ML250, ML400, 2016 GLE450, GLE300, 2016-2018 GLE350, GLE550, 2016-2019 GLE400, 2017-2019 AMG GLE43, and 2016-2020 AMG GLE63 vehicles.

According to the notice, water might accumulate in the spare tire wheel well of the affected vehicles and damage the fuel pump control unit.

This could cause an engine stall while driving, and could cause a crash. About 323,963 vehicles are affected in the United States.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Affected Mercedes owners will get a free fix at the dealer, recall says

To fix the issues, dealers will install a water drain plug, inspect for water intrusion, and replace the fuel pump control unit as necessary, free of charge, the recall states.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 21.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz last year issued a recall for more than 290,000 of its GL, ML and R-Class vehicles over concerns with the vehicles’ brake booster.

The recall affects Mercedes-Benz GL, ML and R-Class vehicles with model years ranging from 2006 to 2012.

One thought on Mercedes recalls 340K vehicles due to engine stalling issue

  1. Adrienne Tate says:

This same exact engine stall happened to my 2013 Mercedes ML350 — while I was driving — and I had to have it towed to a Mercedes Dealer. The Mercedes Dealer charged me closed to $4,000 to fix it — and I could not afford to pay this amount- so they have sent my car to a Towing Place. Please let me know how I can get into this class action lawsuit. Thanks.
