- Why: The product can fall over and hurt people.
- Where: The LG smart TV recall is active in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
LG Electronics has issued a recall of more than 55,000 of its free-standing 86-Inch smart TVs and stands in the United States, Mexico and Canada as they can fall over and hurt people.
The recall was published to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website Jan. 12, and applies to about 52,000 LG 86-inch smart televisions and stands sold in the U.S., as well as 2,900 sold in Mexico and about 1,800 sold in Canada.
According to the company, the TV can become unstable while on the assembled stand, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in “injuries or death to children and others.”
So far, LG Electronics has received 22 reports of TV stand instability, resulting in 12 reports of tip-overs. No injuries have been reported so far.
The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
Take down TV support and wait for instructions for a free repair
The recall involves four LG Electronics 86-inch smart TV models with model numbers 86UQ8000AUB, 86UQ7070ZUD, 86UQ7590PUD, and 86NANO75UQA, which can be found on the bottom right of the back of the TV.
The products were sold at Walmart, Best Buy, Costco and other stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Bestbuy.com and Costco.com from March 2022 through Sept. 2022 for between $1,100 and $1,900.
Consumers using the TV’s supporting stand legs should immediately detach it and place the television in a safe location away from children, the company said.
They should then contact LG Electronics for instructions on how to inspect the unit and to obtain replacement screws and stand parts, including help from a technician for a free repair. Consumers who wall-mounted their TVs do not need to stop using their TVs.
Meanwhile, last year, TCL agreed to a $2.9 million settlement to resolve class action lawsuit claims its TV models were marketed with an inflated refresh rate.

6 months ago I put the stands on the TV prior to this I had it mounted on the wall. I purchased the TV in 2018 and today the TV has broke because the stands have broken in the front and caused the TV to fall forward.
