Insight Pharmaceuticals announced a voluntary recall for two lots of Ting 2% Miconazole Nitrate Athlete’s Foot Spray Antifungal SprayPowder after a third-party lab found samples containing elevated levels of benzene, a cancer-causing chemical.
The recall, which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration published Nov. 24, involves Ting 2% Miconazole Nitrate Athlete’s Foot Spray Antifungal SprayPowder distributed nationwide in 4.5-ounce packaging with lot codes of either 0H88645 or 0B88345.
“While benzene is not an ingredient in any Ting® Antifungal Spray products, the review showed that unexpected levels of benzene came from the propellant that sprays the product out of the can,” the Ting recall states.
No serious adverse events reported in connection with Ting recall
Insight says it notified retailers to remove any of the recalled athlete’s foot spray from their shelves and will offer reimbursement to consumers who purchased the recalled product.
In the recall notice, the pharmaceutical company says no serious adverse events have been reported in connection with the recall. It advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled foot spray and discard it after taking a picture for refund purposes.
Consumers with more questions about the recall can contact Insight directly through email, via its website or by phone at (800) 344-7239.
In other news involving benzene and spray products, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against the makers of Tinactin and Lotrimin branded antifungal spray products in September over claims the companies failed to disclose that the products contained dangerous levels of benzene.
