Irrigation product recall overview:Â

Nurse Assist LLC issued a voluntary recall of its 0.9% sodium chloride irrigation USP and sterile water for irrigation USP after random testing found the sterile barrier was potentially broken.
The irrigation sterility recall includes 0.9% sodium chloride irrigation in 100-milliliter bottles, 250-milliliter bottles, 500-milliliter bottles, 1000-milliliter bottles, 3.1-ounce spray cans, 7.1-ounce spray cans, 3-milliliter syringes, 5-milliliter syringes and 10-milliliter syringes.
The sterile water for irrigation came in 100-milliliter bottles, 250-milliliter bottles, 500-milliliter bottles, 1000-milliliter bottles, 120-milliliter cups, 10-milliliter syringes and 30-milliliter syringes.
The products were sold with expiration dates from Nov. 1, 2023, to Sept. 18, 2025. They include sterile irrigation under the brand names Nurse Assist, Stericare, Cardinal, Covidien, Halyard Owens Minor, Idexx, Mac Medical, McKesson, Medichoice Owens Minor, Medline, SOL, Trudell and Vyaire.
Stop using recalled products immediately, irrigation sterility recall says
Nurse Assist says it has not received reports of adverse effects related to the recall. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
A non-sterile environment could be dangerous to individuals who are immunocompromised, the recall says. Those with the recalled products should stop using them immediately. Nurse Assist is contacting distributors and customers by electronic communication and letter and arranging replacement of the products.

In a similar recall, two companies recalled eye drops in March due to a lack of sterility. Pharmedica USA recalled its Purely Soothing 15% MSM Drops due to non-sterility, and Apotex Corp. recalled its Brimonidine Tartrate Ophthalmic Solution due to cracks that have developed in the bottles.Â
