(Nov. 22, 2023)

Kilitch Healthcare India Limited issued a recall for eye drops sold under the Rite Aid, CVS, Target, Walmart, Rugby, Velocity and Leaderbrands after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found insanitary conditions that could lead to the risk of eye infections or potential harm.

The eye drops recall comes a week after the FDA warned consumers not to use the eye drops.

The eye drops include these brand names:

  • CVS Health
  • Equate (Walmart)
  • Leader (Cardinal Health)
  • Rite Aid
  • Rugby (Cardinal Health)
  • Target Up & Up
  • Velocity Pharma

“For those patients who use these products, there is a potential risk of eye infections or related harm,” the recall says. “These products are intended to be sterile. Ophthalmic drug products pose a potential heightened risk of harm to users because drugs applied to the eyes bypass some of the body’s natural defenses.”

The recall affects all lots of the eye drops with expiration dates between November 2023 and September 2025.

Consumers can return products to place of purchase, eye drops recall says

Kilitch Healthcare India Ltd. says it has not received reports of adverse effects related to the recall so far. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Kilitch says it plans to notify distributor Velocity Pharma LLC and will then notify wholesalers and retailers via mail, arranging for return of the eye drops. Consumers should return the eye drops to the place of purchase.
