Polaris snowmobiles recalls overview:

  • Who: Polaris recalled its model year 2022 Patriot 850 Matryx RMK, Indy and Switchback snowmobiles and model year 2023 Patriot 9R Matryx Pro RMK and Patriot 9R Matryx RMK Khaos snowmobiles.
  • Why: Polaris initiated the recalls over primary drive clutch defect concerns.
  • Where: The recalls apply to consumers in the United States and Canada.

Polaris issued a pair of recalls for its model year 2022-2023 snowmobiles over injury hazard risks concerning their primary drive clutches.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission published the recalls in conjunction with Canada.

The first recall includes around 2,900 Polaris model year 2022 Patriot 850 Matryx RMK, Indy and Switchback snowmobiles sold in the United States and an additional about 1,433 sold in Canada.

Polaris says it received nine reports of the ring gear on the primary drive clutch failing on the recalled model year 2022 snowmobiles, including one report of an injury to a rider’s foot.

The company sold the recalled Polaris snowmobiles at authorized dealers nationwide from June 2021-Feb. 2022 for $14,000-$16,000, according to the Polaris recalls.

Consumer should stop using snowmobiles, contact Polaris

The second recall involves around 2,200 Polaris model year 2023 Patriot 9R Matryx Pro RMK and Patriot 9R Matryx RMK Khaos snowmobiles sold in the United States and about 1,000 sold in Canada.

Polaris says it received 91 reports of the clutch failing on the recalled 2023 snowmobiles, including nine reports of a clutch component separating from the unit.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled snowmobiles and contact either Polaris or an authorized Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair to replace the primary drive clutch.

Owners of the recalled model year 2023 Polaris snowmobiles will also receive clutch guard kit installation and an owner’s manual addendum.

Individuals with more questions about either of the recalls can contact Polaris directly at (800) 765-2747 or on its website.

Polaris announced a number of recalls in recent months, with concerns regarding fire and injury risks on account of an improperly welded seat belt bracket, a pair of fuel leaks, dangerous handlebar hooks and a throttle and brake issue.
