SunTree Snack Foods Dried Sweetened Strawberries Recall Overview:

  • Who: SunTree Snack Foods LLC is recalling its Good & Gather Dried Sweetened Strawberries.
  • Why: The product was recalled because it contains undeclared sulfites. People who have an allergy to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the strawberries.
  • Where: The recalled products were distributed nationwide.

Packages of sweetened dried strawberries are being recalled nationwide as they may contain undeclared sulfites, which can cause life-threatening allergic reactions for those who are allergic.

SunTree Snack Foods LLC, of Phoenix, Arizona, announced the recall of packs of Good & Gather Dried Sweetened Strawberries Mar. 24 on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website.

The strawberries are being recalled because the product contains undeclared sulfites.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the notice says.

The recalled packages are sold as resealable stand-up pouches containing 4 ounces of dried strawberries. The recalled batches can be seen here

The strawberries were distributed to retail stores nationally.

No illnesses have been reported to date, SunTree Snack Foods said. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

“SunTree Snack Foods, LLC is initiating the voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution to protect public health,” the recall said.

Dried Strawberry Recall Set in Motion by Florida Agriculture Department

The recall was initiated after Florida’s Department of Agriculture performed a sampling.

“The results of the sampling indicated the above lots contained sulfites that were not declared on the label,” the FDA said.

Consumers who have purchased the strawberries included in the recall are urged to dispose of the product.

The news comes after a pair of recalls were initiated Mar. 24 over the presence of undeclared sulfites in A&C Best Food Trading’s Dried Wife Plum and Licorice Flavor Olive products.
