Best Buy Insignia pressure cooker recall overview:

  • Who: Best Buy recalled around 930,000 Insignia pressure cookers.
  • Why: The company initiated the recall over concerns the Insignia pressure cookers contained incorrect volume markings on their inner pot, causing consumers to overfill them and creating a potential burn hazard.
  • Where: The recall affects consumers nationwide.

Best Buy announced a recall around 930,000 Insignia pressure cookers over concerns they contain incorrect volume markings on their inner pot, an issue that could cause consumers to overfill the devices.

The retailer is concerned unintentionally overfilling the recalled Insignia pressure cookers could cause hot foods and liquids to eject from the devices during venting using the quick release method or opening while the contents are pressurized, according to the recall.

The recall involves Insignia pressure cookers with model nos. NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9 or NS-MC80SS9 and inner cook pots, sold separately as replacements, with model nos. NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS9.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Insignia pressure cookers and contact Best Buy to obtain both a free replacement of their inner pot and a floating locking valve for signaling pressure.

Best Buy received 17 reports of burn injuries, according to recall

Best Buy says it received 31 reports of contents expelled from the recalled Insignia pressure cookers while under pressure, including 17 reports of burn injuries.

Best Buy sold the recalled Insignia pressure cookers nationwide at its stores and online at Amazon for between $50 and $120 from October 2017 to June 2023.

Individuals with more questions about the recall can contact Best Buy directly by phone at (888) 359-4485 or by visiting the company’s website.

In a similar event, Sensio initiated a recall for some of its electric and stovetop pressure cookers in August over concerns their lids could unlock while the devices were in use, presenting a burn hazard.
