Frigidaire announced a recall for 77,000 of its stainless steel 30-inch, four-burner and 36-inch, five-burner gas cooktops.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission posted the recall, which states the plastic knobs to control the cooktop can break, creating a gas leak and fire hazard.

The Frigidaire gas cooktop recall applies to model FFGC3026SS that includes serial numbers 1F00590006 to 1F11090155 and 3F53705075 to 3F01309052. It also applies to model FFGC3626SS with serial numbers 1F00590020 to 1F10390342 and 3F53703455 to 3F00806110.

Consumers can locate the model number and serial number on a label on the underside of the cooktop, which says “FRIGIDAIRE” on the front lower left corner. Electrolux sold the units at Lowe’s, The Home Depot and other independent appliance stores nationwide from March 2016 to April 2022 for about $1,000.

Stop using cooktops, contact Electrolux for replacement knobs, recall says

Electrolux says it received 63 reports of control knobs cracking or breaking along with one report of a gas leak leading to minor injury and one report of a fire. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Customers should immediately stop using the Frigidaire gas cooktops and contact Electrolux Group for a free set of replacement knobs on the cooktops with a black shaft, according to the recall notice. Consumers can continue to use knobs with a chrome-colored shaft.

Electrolux Home Products is available via phone at (800) 314-3998 Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET or via email at cooktopknobrecall@electrolux.com.

Electrolux faces a related class action lawsuit alleging it sells Electrolux, AEG and Frigidaire ranges with defective knobs that can cause the unintentional ignition of burners and cooktops.

    Please add me

  2. Doreen Waller says:

I previously commented about my Frigidaire stove but saw that the recall was not for models FGGF3059TF and serial number VF80816334. This is the 5 burner with chrome knobs. The knobs are very sensitive and you can barely touch them and the gas will be turned on. I sent for replacement knobs; however, this model should be included in the recall and considered for possible future lawsuit.

  3. Michele Barnette says:

Not only is this a problem but they also failed to provide the correct conversion kits from natural gas to lp which causes gas leaks and substantial fire hazards especially when using the oven due to the incorrect modulator conversion kits sold and later informing consumers that the correct parts needed for the safe conversion have been discontinued
