Frickenschmidt Foods Beef Sticks Recall Overview:

  • Who: Frickenschmidt Foods LLC is recalling about 5,795 pounds of High Protein Snack Teriyaki Beef Wicked Cutz Beef Sticks.
  • Why: The beef sticks are falsely labeled as being gluten-free.
  • Where: The products were distributed nationwide.

Almost three tons of teriyaki beef sticks are being recalled nationwide as they falsely declare on their packaging that they are “gluten-free.”

In an alert posted to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website Feb. 22, Frickenschmidt Foods LLC announced it was recalling approximately 5,795 pounds of ready-to-eat beef stick products due to misbranding.

According to the Lockwood, Missouri, company, its High Protein Snack Teriyaki Beef Wicked Cutz Beef Sticks packaged on Nov. 30, 2021, Dec. 1, 2021, and Jan. 28, 2021, are falsely labeled as “gluten-free” when they contain gluten.

The sticks were shipped to retail locations nationwide and sold through online sales, the recall says.

Distribution Company Notified Manufacturer of Issue

The problem was first discovered when the distribution company notified the manufacturer that the product is labeled as “gluten-free” but also lists wheat in the ingredients.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consuming the product, so far, the company said. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

However, the FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ pantries.

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” it said. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

The snacks have lot code 113022, 120122 or 012823 printed in blue ink on the back of the product package, which can be seen here

In other recall news, a massive rat infestation at a Family Dollar warehouse has prompted the chain to temporarily close more than 400 stores and recall a range of products.
