Danby Electric and Gas Ranges Recall Overview:
- Who: Danby Products Limited is recalling 1,700 electric and gas ranges.
- Why: The ranges can tip over, posing a risk of burn injuries from hot foods or liquids.
- Where: The ovens were sold in the United States.
About 1,700 electric and gas ranges are being recalled nationwide as they can tip over, causing burns.
Danby Products Limited announced Mar. 9 on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website that it was recalling some of its Danby brand free-standing and slide-in electric and gas ranges.
“The ranges can tip over when a heavy weight is placed on an open oven door and the anti-tip-over bracket is not secured to the wall or floor, posing a tip-over hazard and risk of burn injuries from hot food or liquids in cookware,” the recall notice says.
No injuries have been reported in regards to the product so far, the company said. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
The recalled products include units sold in white, black and other finish colors. Locate the model number of your range on the oven frame or under the electric stovetop, and then check here to see if your range is part of the recall.
If the range is subject to the recall, customers can contact Danby to schedule a free in-home service call to inspect the recalled range’s anti-tip bracket and ensure it is securely installed in the floor or wall.
“Consumers are cautioned not to place any objects on the open oven door until the range’s anti-tip bracket has been inspected and repaired, if necessary,” the recall says.
Recalled Danby Ranges Should Not Be Taken Back to Place of Purchase
The ranges were sold nationwide at Home Depot, ABC Appliance and other appliance stores nationwide, including Almo Distributing, Penna Inc., Home Depot Pro and Tri State Distributors, from June 2021 through November 2021 for between $560 and $740.
However, consumers should not return the recalled ranges to the place of purchase as retailers are not prepared to take the units back, the company said.
“Danby is contacting all known purchasers directly,” the recall notice states.
Meanwhile, more than 144,000 stoves of various brands are being recalled in the United States and Canada due to the risk of tipping over and injuring and burning people.
According to that recall, the at-risk products include 30-inch, 24-inch and 20-inch free-standing and slide-in electric and gas ranges with seven brand names: GE, GE Profile, Café, Haier, Hotpoint, Crosley and Conservator.
