GE Appliances Stove Recall Overview:

  • Who: GE Appliances is recalling seven brands of ovens.
  • Why: The stoves can tip over, posing a risk of burn injuries from hot foods or liquids.
  • Where: The ovens were sold in the United States and Canada.

More than 144,000 stoves are being recalled in the United States and Canada due to the risk of tipping over and injuring and burning people.

The recall, which applies to seven different brands of ovens distributed by GE Appliances, was posted Dec. 8 on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

According to the recall, the at-risk products include 30-inch, 24-inch and 20-inch free-standing and slide-in electric and gas ranges with seven brand names: GE, GE Profile, Café, Haier, Hotpoint, Crosley and Conservator.

“The ranges can tip over when a heavy object is placed on an open oven door and the anti-tip-over bracket is not secured to the wall or floor, posing a tip-over hazard and risk of burn injuries from hot food or liquids in cookware,” the recall says.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits

About 132,000 of the ovens are being recalled in the United States and about 12,960 in Canada.

No Injuries Have Been Reported, But Consumers Should Contact GE Appliances

The ovens were sold at some of the nations’ biggest retailers, including Lowe’s, Home Depot, Best Buy and other home improvement and home appliance stores nationwide.

The affected models were purchased between May 2021 and July 2021 for between $580 and $4,600, depending on the model.

No injuries have been reported so far, the recall notice says. However, consumers should contact GE Appliances to determine if their unit is part of the recall and to schedule a free in-home service call to inspect the recalled range’s anti-tip bracket and ensure it is securely installed in the floor or wall.

Consumers cannot take the ovens back to the place of purchase, the recall says, as retailers are not prepared to take them back. GE will contact all known purchasers directly.

Oven owners can continue to use the recalled ranges but are warned not to put anything on the open oven door until the anti-tip bracket has been fixed.

In 2013, Haier agreed to a $3 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve allegations it sold power-draining freezers that consumed nearly twice the amount of energy allowed under federal standards.

I bought a GE Gas Stove less than two weeks ago. The gas company just left. Apparently the regulator on this product was leaking a substantial amount of gas into my home.
