Google Pixel class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Jennifer Hyatt filed a class action lawsuit against Google.
  • Why: Hyatt claims Google sold Pixel 6 Pro cellphones containing a defect that causes them to overheat to the point that they become too hot hold.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court in California.

Google Pixel Pro 6 phones contain a defect that causes them to overheat so much that they become too hot to hold, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Jennifer Hyatt’s class action lawsuit claims she has gone through “numerous” replacement Google Pixel Pro 6 cellphones but found each one to contain the alleged overheating defect, according to Law360.

Hyatt argues Google is aware of the alleged defect, as shown by the company having a webpage allegedly titled “Help keep your Pixel phone from feeling too warm or hot.”

Despite this, Google failed to warn consumers that the Pixel Pro 6 cellphone is allegedly prone to overheating and, instead, continued advertising the devices as if nothing was wrong with them, the class action alleges.

Hyatt wants to represent a California class of consumers who purchased a Pixel Pro 6 device in the state, Law360 reports.

Class action says Google should have to recall Pixel 6 Pro, issue refunds

The class action argues the company should be ordered to create an advertisement alerting consumers to the alleged Pixel Pro 6 defect, recall the cellphones and issue refunds to consumers who purchased them.

The lawsuit claims Google is guilty of negligent and intentional misrepresentation and of violating California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, False Advertising Law, Unfair Competition Law and Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, according to Law360.

A plaintiff filed a separate class action lawsuit against Google in February 2023 over claims the company falsely advertised the charging capabilities of its Pixel 6 cellphones.

The Google Pixel class action lawsuit is Hyatt v. Google LLC, Case No. 24STCV03285, in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles.

Well this sucks. I got the pixel 7 and this thing overheats all the time.

  2. Donovan O'Leary says:

I have a Pixel 6 Pro purchased in Pennsylvania and it overheats when on Video calls (Teams & Zoom) as well as when using navigation. As a result the battery life ends up being third of what it should be.

  3. Stephanie Smith says:

    Please add me

  4. Erik says:

Same exact issue. It’ll overheat and the phone will automatically be forced to shut down or turn off certain features. Unfortunately, I’ve had to use their warranty either once or twice with previous phones having the same issue. I am very tempted to switch to a Samsung.

  5. Ronnie Aris says:

I have a P6P and yes it can get very hot while browsing or reading for a short period of time. Of course if I’m playing any games it gets so hot that android issues a warning that phone temp is high and eventually it’ll shutdown the phone.

I live in California and purchased my pixel from Verizon.

  6. April J. Vidal says:

my google pixel overheats all the time and fast!

  7. Michael Banks says:

I have a Pixel 6A. The Pixel 6 series all have the same chipset which is causing the overheating. The legal team can contact me because I’ll definitely hop on board since I was trying to start one here in Texas.

  8. Aaron May says:

I have a pixel 6a. I was just on vacation in Florida an the thing got so hot while connected to the resort Wi-Fi while browsing the internet thru chrome. Doing the most basic things any phone can handle, this thing hears up all the time. I had to stick it in the freezer because I was worried it’ll catch on fire how hot it got.

  9. Gabe Peterson says:

Mine overheats from time to time. Once it was during an important zoom counseling session.

  10. Michelle A says:

    I have a P6P since new. Many battery issues…..
