Google Pixel class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Jennifer Hyatt filed a class action lawsuit against Google.
  • Why: Hyatt claims Google sold Pixel 6 Pro cellphones containing a defect that causes them to overheat to the point that they become too hot hold.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court in California.

Google Pixel Pro 6 phones contain a defect that causes them to overheat so much that they become too hot to hold, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Jennifer Hyatt’s class action lawsuit claims she has gone through “numerous” replacement Google Pixel Pro 6 cellphones but found each one to contain the alleged overheating defect, according to Law360.

Hyatt argues Google is aware of the alleged defect, as shown by the company having a webpage allegedly titled “Help keep your Pixel phone from feeling too warm or hot.”

Despite this, Google failed to warn consumers that the Pixel Pro 6 cellphone is allegedly prone to overheating and, instead, continued advertising the devices as if nothing was wrong with them, the class action alleges.

Hyatt wants to represent a California class of consumers who purchased a Pixel Pro 6 device in the state, Law360 reports.

Class action says Google should have to recall Pixel 6 Pro, issue refunds

The class action argues the company should be ordered to create an advertisement alerting consumers to the alleged Pixel Pro 6 defect, recall the cellphones and issue refunds to consumers who purchased them.

The lawsuit claims Google is guilty of negligent and intentional misrepresentation and of violating California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, False Advertising Law, Unfair Competition Law and Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, according to Law360.

A plaintiff filed a separate class action lawsuit against Google in February 2023 over claims the company falsely advertised the charging capabilities of its Pixel 6 cellphones.

The Google Pixel class action lawsuit is Hyatt v. Google LLC, Case No. 24STCV03285, in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles.

I have a 6A and this phone overheats people think I’m crazy until they touch it.gets so hot phone shuts down

  2. Anthony says:

Phone reheats regularly anytime I take multiple pictures. Can’t even take videos because it’s too intensive in battery. This is almost always the case if I’m outside and the weather is above 70f.

  3. Kevin Kurowski says:

I had a pixel 6 pro overheat and stop working. It voided all my rebates and sign up bonus with Verizon. I simply had the phone in my bag (out of the sun) during a baseball game on a hot summer day – something I’ve done hundreds of times with other phones and they’ve had no problems.

  4. Matt says:

Ordered one on launch. Exchanged it within the first few months citing overheating issues. Same issue with the replacement. Had to deal with it until eventuallly switched to most recent iPhone. The overheating of the p6p definitely limited its use as could only hold onto it for short periods of time even with a case on it.

How do I get added to this ?

  6. Ray Keisler says:

Bought two of those phones in south carolina, brand spanking new and until one was destroyed it did the same thing and the other one that my wife still uses will get so hot that she has to put it down.

  7. rebecca Gadbury says:

hi i live in los angeles- i bought the pixel 6 pro through verizon then switched it to the google fi network . i did not upgrade to the 7 and had the 6 pro the entire time up until right now.. google finally bested me- they broke my spirit with the pixel 6s never ending issues. I held out as long as i possibly could without having a complete mental break –
i had the patience of mthrfckng gandhi (minus all the racist beliefs against blacks) dealing with constant force shut downs of all apps even tho my phone was constantly updated, browsers loading slower than dialup AOL even tho i had full bars and full wifi and the speedtest came back fine, and the reason we are all here – the main dish-OVERHEATING overnight it was overheating so much that i woke up to my skin burning. SO IM FINALLY GIVING UP!! I cant do it one more day( one more second). Google won this one and has made my phone so sh1tty that at the end it was faster for me to literally run to someone’s house to speak w them than to try to text call or email.- I am about to sell it finally to get the pixel 8 because the problems have long surpassed my patience so much so that i am seriously considering Office Spacing my pixel 6 pro with friends in a field w a bat(for the genZ who never heard of that legendary movie) or i am going to sell it and pass the cursed item to its next victim.

  9. Taylor kinter says:

Just got rid my pixel 6 pro because of this and charging issues they wouldn’t acknowledge, even with a case on it got to hot to hold, fell asleep and rolled over onto if it and woke up to to it burning my chest

    1. Andrew says:

Whenever I leave my phone (screen off) in my bag on a hot day it’s always scolding hot after an hour or so. It turns off due to overheating and has caused issues in the past when I needed it to pay for items.

  10. Kim Velasquez says:

Pixel 7 pro overheats as well and is hot to the touch
