The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns customers to stop using Evercross EV5 hoverboards due to a fire risk.
An Evercross hoverboard caught fire and led to substantial damage in a New York City residential building in May 2023, the CPSC says.
Jinhua Smart Electric Technology Co. Ltd. manufactures the Evercross hoverboards in China in black, blue or pink, according to the warning. Evercrossis printed on the front of the boards.
Evercross hasn’t agreed to recall, refund but CPSC asks for battery removal
Evercross has not agreed to a recall or remedy for customers, the warning states. The CPSC says it is aware of one fire and asks consumers to report issues on its website.
The CPSC asks consumers to immediately remove the battery packs from the hoverboards and dispose of them according to local battery recycling procedures at a battery recycling facility, not in the general trash or recycling.
