Google Pixel class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Jennifer Hyatt filed a class action lawsuit against Google.
  • Why: Hyatt claims Google sold Pixel 6 Pro cellphones containing a defect that causes them to overheat to the point that they become too hot hold.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court in California.

Google Pixel Pro 6 phones contain a defect that causes them to overheat so much that they become too hot to hold, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Jennifer Hyatt’s class action lawsuit claims she has gone through “numerous” replacement Google Pixel Pro 6 cellphones but found each one to contain the alleged overheating defect, according to Law360.

Hyatt argues Google is aware of the alleged defect, as shown by the company having a webpage allegedly titled “Help keep your Pixel phone from feeling too warm or hot.”

Despite this, Google failed to warn consumers that the Pixel Pro 6 cellphone is allegedly prone to overheating and, instead, continued advertising the devices as if nothing was wrong with them, the class action alleges.

Hyatt wants to represent a California class of consumers who purchased a Pixel Pro 6 device in the state, Law360 reports.

Class action says Google should have to recall Pixel 6 Pro, issue refunds

The class action argues the company should be ordered to create an advertisement alerting consumers to the alleged Pixel Pro 6 defect, recall the cellphones and issue refunds to consumers who purchased them.

The lawsuit claims Google is guilty of negligent and intentional misrepresentation and of violating California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, False Advertising Law, Unfair Competition Law and Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, according to Law360.

A plaintiff filed a separate class action lawsuit against Google in February 2023 over claims the company falsely advertised the charging capabilities of its Pixel 6 cellphones.

The Google Pixel class action lawsuit is Hyatt v. Google LLC, Case No. 24STCV03285, in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles.

Is this specifically for the Pixel 6 Pro or the Pixel 6 series? All of the 6 series have the same Tensor 1 SoC. I experienced all of the above before switching to Samsung. Add me please. Michael Banks banksmi09@gmail.com

It’s embarrassing to have a phone that is known for its great camera but since the phone overheats, it literally prevents you from using its great camera when you need it the most.

My Pixel 6 got hot straight out of the box as I was giving it an initial charge. I called Verizon, but they wanted a $50 replacement fee for the phone that had just been delivered that day. So I kept it for two years. It was hot all the time.

I have a 6pro that overheats as well(well this is my replacement pixel 6pro).my original overheated also..

  10. Rob L. says:

I should add. My Pixel 6 Pro overheats and shuts down whenever used in 5G mode. In order to use the phone I have to be in 4G LTE mode or lower. It simply will not operate in 5G for more than a few minutes before overheating and shutting down. It’s been this way since the day I got the phone.
