  • Why: The lithium ion batteries in the hoverboards can overheat and cause a fire hazard.
  • Where: The hoverboard recall is valid across the United States.

Hover-1 announced a recall of 25,000 of its camouflage and galaxy Helix hoverboards due to a fire hazard related to their lithium ion batteries.

The hoverboard fire hazard recall impacts hoverboards with serial nos. containing 15914, 19203 or 19988 as the fifth code in the six-code serial number. “Hover-1” is printed on the front of the hoverboard. The model “Hover-1 Helix” and the serial number are printed on separate labels on the bottom of the hoverboard.

Hover-1 sold the hoverboards for $170-$200 on the Walmart and Amazon websites from Sept. 2020-Dec. 2021.

Customers can receive free hoverboard replacement

DGL Group says it received three reports of fires and five reports of people experiencing headaches, nausea or coughs from smoke inhalation related to the hoverboard recall. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

DGL asks customers to stop using the hoverboard recall products immediately and contact Hover-1 for instructions to receive a free replacement. DGL Group is located in Edison, New Jersey.

Consumers can reach Hover-1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Monday-Friday at (888) 556-8426 or online.

In 2022, DGL Group recalled about 93,000 Hover-1 Superfly Hoverboards due to a software issue that allows the boards to keep working without rider control, causing at least four injuries so far.
