Wrong number robocalls: Who’s affected?
Have you received a recorded voice message on your cell phone that was intended for someone other than you?
If so, you may have the right to bring a Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) class action lawsuit. The TCPA allows consumers to recover $500-$1,500 per violation.
Although a business, creditor, or debt collector calling a wrong cell phone number may seem like a simple mistake, wrong-number calls to cell phones are often illegal.
Wrong-number calls sometimes occur shortly after the person receiving the call obtains a new cell phone number. This is because a company attempting to reach a customer is often not made aware when a telephone number the company associates with a customer is reassigned to someone else.
Wrong-number calls also occur in connection with other circumstances, such as when a business simply has an incorrect telephone number listed for its customer.

What is the TCPA?
The TCPA is a federal law that prohibits companies from placing artificial or prerecorded voice calls, or delivering artificial or prerecorded voice messages, to cell phones without prior express consent from the user of or subscriber to the cell phone.
Under the TCPA, consumers may be able to collect between $500-$1,500 per illegal call or recorded voice message by filing a lawsuit against an offending company.
