Acura RDX infotainment systemThe Acura RDX Infotainment System installed in vehicles built for the 2019 model year has proven to have fatal flaws, according to several purchasers.

According to a recent class action lawsuit filed in California, these infotainment systems, which are also installed in 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey and 2019 Pilot, have a system-wide defect that causes them to suddenly crash or hang. Plaintiffs claim that the system was inadequately tested, and that Honda was aware of the problems even as the first models rolled off the assembly line.

Despite repeated repairs and even replacements, owners say the Acura RDX Infotainment System continues to fail, costing owners thousands of dollars. They report the Honda Corporation has failed to address the problem.

About the Acura RDX Infotainment System

In May, 2018, Wired magazine featured a story about the Acura RDX Infotainment System. The piece grandly announced, “Acura has finally made an easy-to-use infotainment system!” It was hailed as a solution to the problems of touchscreens and knob-based systems that “finds that elusive territory between usefulness and distraction,” a hybrid combining the best of both systems.

Indeed, the new interface seemed promising. Those in a focus group who had tried out the new system in a driving simulator reported being very happy with the experience.

It all went sour very quickly, however. A little over a month after the review in Wired, a new Acura owner posted a complaint on the blog Acurazine, noting that the new Acura RDX Infotainment System had crashed less than 24 hours after he had purchased the vehicle. That entry was followed by dozens more from users who had experienced similar problems.

Failed Attempts at Repair

Less than a year after Wired published its glowing review of the new Acura RDX Infotainment System, Consumer Reports downgraded its rating of the 2018 Honda Odyssey, which uses the same infotainment system, to “No Longer Recommended.” The reason: “much-worse-than-average reliability, with problems including the infotainment display freezing and losing all functionality.”

That wasn’t the worst of it. Acura and Honda owners report they’ve taken their vehicles into service facilities as many as eight times to have the unit repaired or replaced – and each time, the problems of infotainment system hangs and loss of functionality remained.

The issue goes beyond the ability to play music or hands-free cell phone operation. The Acura RDX Infotainment System also operates many safety related features such as a back-up camera and lane departure warning as well engine monitoring. These problems are not confined to the Acura RDX; other Honda models, specifically the Odyssey and the Pilot, have similar issues, according to the National Highway Safety Administration.

More Lawsuits to Come?

A number of Honda infotainment lawsuits have been filed by consumers extolling the dangers of a faulty system. The latest class action lawsuit, filed on March 22, alleges breach of warranty and violations of the federal Magnuson Moss Warranty Act of 1975.

If you are the owner of a new Acura RDX, Honda Odyssey or Pilot, you may be eligible to seek compensation. A qualified product liability lawyer can advise you of your rights and how you may be able to get compensation for expenses and inconvenience related to your Acura RDX Infotainment System.

Just purchased a new 2020 RDX. Starting second day of ownership Infotainment started dying on me.
Sometimes it works most of the times not. It usually starts with this message: Network connection lost
    And the dies completely
So far the dealership couldn’t find the cause.
I am scheduled for the infotainment unit replacement.
I fear it will not solve the issue.
